Roxbury High School Staff Bid Farewell to Principal Swanson 


Roxbury High School Graduation Livestreamed
Thursday was graduation day at Roxbury High School, but the outdoor ceremony that took place at noon was open only to ticket holders. For those that missed the big event, you can see the  livestreamed video here thanks to Roxbury's Gaelvision.

Roxbury Students Deliver Gift Kits to Thousands of Kids with Cancer
A school project that gathered small gifts for kids with cancer ended successfully this month, said the Roxbury High School students who created it.  "Project Glow Gold,"  formed by Roxbury senior Madison Ketch, senior Jessica Marie Bartelloni and junior Gabby Keuscher came up just shy of its goal of supplying 5,000 children with gifts, said Bartelloni.

The students collected small items - not big monetary donations - including coloring books, crayons, fuzzy socks, lip balm, anti-nausea wristbands, magazines, books, puzzles, reusable water bottles, stress balls and chewing gum. They created a website and Facebook page and reached out to Roxbury organizations, including the Roxbury Rotary Club, for help.

The teens also sold about 200 bracelets that say "Project Glow Gold" on one side and "Be Bold Glow Gold" on the other. They also collected several hundred dollars in monetary donations, including $200 from the Rotary Club.

The kits were delivered to young patients at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital in Hackensack, Morristown Memorial Goryeb Center in Morristown and St Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, said Bartelloni. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Roxbury's students have always been encouraged to maintain their studies when school is out of session. Roxbury Collects  Box Tops for Education
Roxbury Township Public Schools are continuously collecting "Box Tops for Education" at our K-8 schools.  This is an easy, practically effortless way to raise funds for our schools by purchasing items you buy all the time.  Clipped box tops can be sent to any of our K-8 schools district-wide. School addresses can be found on our website at www.roxbury.org .

Here we will feature events of organizations, clubs, and teams throughout our communities that serve to enrich the lives of our students.  Announcements, upcoming events, documents and forms that were previously sent home via backpacks will now be included in the Virtual Backpack. (On occasion, some paper forms, and flyers and other important information, will come home with your student or be sent to you directly via email.)  This page is updated as flyers are received. You may want to change your time settings from Midnight to Midnight and have more than one way of being contacted...i.e., phone call/text message and/or email! Two Students from Roxbury Make Springfield College Dean's List
Two students from Succasunna qualified for the spring semester dean's list at Springfield College. Criteria for selection to the dean's list requires that the student must have a minimum semester grade point average of 3.5 for the semester.  The students are  Mackenzie Miller, who is studying Health Science/Pre-physician Assistant and  Megan Schneider, who also is studying Health Science/Pre-physician Assistant. Roxbury Alumni Association -- Get Involved!
The Roxbury Alumni Association was established in the early 1900s and formally incorporated in 1968. Every year the Alumni Association provides a scholarship to a graduating senior. The association also purchases a Echo yearbook and donates it to the Roxbury Township Library for its archive.  Membership is only $10 and with your gift, you directly support the ability for the Alumni Association to continue giving a RHS grad a scholarship. You are also supporting the association as it develops new programs and events for you to enjoy.  Looking to get involved? The Roxbury Alumni Association is looking to expand its current board of directors. They are looking for energetic alumni interested in getting involved with the Association and to add new members to its board. The Roxbury Community School is dedicated to helping students prepare for college through a few different avenues.


The Roxbury Community School has also partnered with Kaplan SAT/ACT Prep and Lentz & Lentz SAT/ACT Prep to empower students to excel on standardized tests like the SAT's and ACT's.

New this year, the Community has also teamed up with Catalyst SAT & ACT Prep to bring you 2-day SAT and ACT Bootcamps this fall and spring. Registrations are now being accepted for fall programs! Combo SAT/ACT Course Sequences will be coming this winter!

This system enables Roxbury to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods.

Roxbury's Kellie Ann Keyes Named County's Recycling "Rox-Star"
Kellie Ann Keyes, who runs Roxbury's recycling program was honored recently by Morris County for her efforts, with the county dubbing her its "Rox-Star Recycler."  Keyes was one of 10 people and businesses to receive a 2018 Environmental Excellence Award from the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA). The MUA gave her the award in recognition of her efforts in promoting recycling in the schools, businesses and multi-family complexes in Roxbury. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Lake Hopatcong Foundation's New Floating Classroom Open for Public Cruises
The Lake Hopatcong Foundation this spring christened its new Floating Classroom, dubbed "Study Hull," and has since educated nearly 800 local students aboard the vessel, a 40-foot pontoon boat. As the school year comes to an end, the lessons will continue: the Lake Hopatcong Foundation Floating Classroom will run 90-minute trips from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Monday from July 9 to August 27, with the public invited to take a ride, conduct experiments, and learn about the Lake Hopatcong watershed. Buy-A-Brick Campaign to Help Improve Main Street
Roxbury Township's Main Street Committee invites you to help support their fundraising efforts to continue the beautification of Main St. in Succasunna.  Memorial/honorary engraved bricks are still available for sale. The bricks are installed in the courtyard surrounding the Victorian Clock by the Gazebo at the Library.  Remember a loved one. Honor your family's name on historic Main Street. Clean Up at the Sixth Roxbury Town-Wide Garage Sale - June 23-24th
What better way to welcome the first weekend of summer than with a spring cleanup of the garage, basement or attic?  Summer arrives Thursday, June 21 and the Sixth Annual Town-Wide Garage Sale, a fundraiser for The  Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place June 23 and June 24.

On those days, bargain hunters will roam the township with cash in hand hoping to find stuff they always wanted, never knew they wanted or don't really want but "what the heck, it's only $5." Given that there were more than 150 individual garage sales taking place at last year's event, chances are good that both sellers and buyers will find some level of satisfaction. Roxbury Grad on Drums in Sunday Jazz Show Fundraiser- June 24th
The Investor's Bank Theater at Horseshoe Lake will be the site for a special performance Sunday by a professional jazz group that includes a Roxbury High School graduate.  The 4 p.m.performance of American jazz by the Joe Davidian Trio (JD3), will be a scholarship fundraiser for the Roxbury Arts Alliance. The $20-per-person show,  with tickets available online , is being billed by the Alliance as a performance that "kicks off" its Free Concert Series. Three of the upcoming free shows will take place at the relocated Roxbury Library Gazebo. 

Performing with JD3 - indoors at Sunday's fundraiser show - will be percussionist Austin McMahon, the son of Roxbury Arts Alliance Executive Trustee Linda McMahon. After graduating from Roxbury High School in 1999, McMahon went on to become a professional jazz musician as well as a music instructor. He teaches at New England Conservatory in Boston, MA and taught jazz improvisation at Harvard University from 2010-2015, according to the Arts Alliance. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Roxbury Urged to Thrill Vets with Lakeside Displays of Thank - June 30th
Roxbury people are being urged to show up in force along the shoreline of Lake Hopatcong on June 30 to wave, cheer and otherwise thank military veterans who will be passing by on the Third Annual  "Veterans Cruise."

For the first time, the Cruise will swing into Landing Channel at the southern tip of the lake, making the  recently named Landing Gateway Park on Lakeside Boulevard an ideal place for the patriotic to show their appreciation, said Roxbury resident Christine Houtz, who is helping to organize the event.
 
The veterans will be aboard the Miss Lotta, a vessel that offers cruises of Lake Hopatcong. Miss Lotta Captain Leon Moreau  recently took water depth measurements in the channel and determined it is deep enough for the craft.  Click here  to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Mount Arlington Recreation
Mt Arlington Rec is a group of volunteers appointed by the Mayor with the goal to coordinate and administer the recreation needs of the Borough. They work together with community volunteers to offer quality recreational programs for the entire family.

Roxbury Library's 'More Than Just Books' Effort Now Includes Passports
Roxbury has pretty much everything a person needs, right? So why go anywhere else, especially another country?  Nevertheless, in the rare case where multi-national travel is necessary, Roxbury residents can now get passports in the convenient and comfortable environs of the Roxbury Public Library, according to library director Radwa Ali.
