Roxbury Roxbotix Head to Pennsylvania for Bensalem District Event
Roxbury High School Robotics team will compete this weekend in Bensalem, PA at its Bensalem District Event as one of 31 teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
The team last competed at the 2019 Finger Lakes Regional Event held at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY on March 16th. They were one of 49 teams from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Michigan, Mexico, and China.
Roxbury was seeded 15th out of the 49 teams after the event's ten qualification matches, which was better than they did last year when they were 20th. Unfortunately, though, they were not selected by one of the top eight seeded teams to be one of the 24 teams in the playoff tournament. Roxbury Schools Raise Funds for Pediatric Cancer
Schools in Roxbury Township had a reason to celebrate St. Patrick's Day weekend, not for all things Irish, but for the amount of money they raised to fight pediatric cancer. Out of three events held between March 15th and 16th, the district raised more than $108,000.
During the day, Lincoln/Roosevelt and Kennedy Elementary School each hosted a St. Baldrick's head-shaving event to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation that assists families whose children are battling cancer. Lincoln/Roosevelt had extra support once again from Franklin students. Thirty-one fifth and six graders from LRS shaved their heads while Franklin had 11 participants.
Lincoln/Roosevelt has been hosting St. Baldrick's events for the last ten years according to Jim McDermott, PE teacher and event organizer at LRS. He shared with the kids that since this began at LRS, they've raised $258,000. This year's total as of the Friday event was $14,788.
Kennedy Elementary School with the extra help from Jefferson students also had a great event that raised over $11,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Kennedy's Early Act Club arranged to have a leprechaun (Steve Alford from the Roxbury Rotary) show up once again at the St. Baldrick's event to have students take their pictures with him as an additional fundraiser for the event. Students could pay $1 for a picture with the leprechaun. The Club raised an additional $335!
Roxbury High School's Mini-THON was that Friday night into Saturday morning where more than 500 Roxbury High Schools students (more than 1/3 of the school) and a handful of Eisenhower Middle School eighth graders, danced the night away to a beach theme to raise money and support for the fight against pediatric cancer in the Roxbury High School gymnasium.
Funds raised from this event will be donated to the Four Diamonds, which covers medical bills for families as well as cancer research. This year's mini-THON raised $82,411.82! Click here to read more about these three events on our website under "In the News".
Health and Wellness at the Forefront of Franklin Assembly
Roxbury Schools is always striving to promote healthy minds and bodies of its students. With the help of Franklin Elementary School's PTA, the K-4 students at the school were treated to Professor Parsnip's Lab of Healthy Living assembly by the Bright Star Touring Theatre on March 13th.
After speaking with Principal Lisa Ferrare, Lori Romano, Franklin's PTA President thought it would be interesting to bring in a group like this as Mrs. Ferrare explained how health and wellness have been a focus for the district in recent years.
Romano shared why she too thought the topic was important saying, "Health should be important to adults and children. This was a great opportunity to get educated on healthy eating. The students could possibly even educate their parents when they got home that day!"
The 45-minute production shared exciting science experiments to help teach the importance of making healthy life decisions. Students loved the mad-cap scientist, her funny sidekick and the adventures they had along the way while they explored the ins and outs of nutrition, exercise, and mental/physical health.

Sixth Year for Roxbury Teen's Anti-Cancer Baseball Tournament
This will be its sixth year, so can we now call the Landon Monro Stand Up To Cancer Baseball Tournament a Roxbury tradition?
The tournaments, started in 2014 by Succasunna teenager Landon Monro, have raised more than $24,000 for cancer research. So even if the annual event needs to run a few more years before attaining "tradition" status, it's still quite an accomplishment.
Monro, now 16 and a Roxbury High School junior, is hoping the 2019 installment is bigger and better than ever. It will take place at the Righter Road baseball fields on June 15.
The "fun, non-competitive" tournament is open to players of all ages (adults will play softball) and costs $26 per player. Monro is also seeking contributions from non-players in the form of donations and sponsorships.
RSVPs including the names of players, their ages and grade level, can be emailed to Dayna Monro at daynamonro@aol.com. Checks, payable to Stand Up to Cancer, can be sent to Dayna Monro, 12 Meredith Ct., Succasunna, NJ 07876. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Roxbury Alumni In the News
Roxbury Alumni Directory Project with PCI
If you're one of our 17,000 alumni, you may be receiving a postcard, email, or phone call from Publishing Concepts Inc. (PCI). We're working with PCI to produce an updated alumni directory. We want to make it easier for you to connect with fellow Gaels, which is why we're compiling the Roxbury Alumni Directory. The extensive directory will be available in both hardcover and digital form for any alumni who wish to purchase it and will be a valuable tool for Gaels looking to reconnect with classmates or broaden their Gaels network.
Enjoy the memories and remember every day is a great day to be a Gael! Click here to find out more regarding our Roxbury Alumni Directory Project.

Release Your Inner Tiger Woods at Roxbury Library Mini Golf - Apr 13
Roxbury Public Library Director Radwa Ali is urging people to sign-up for the library's upcoming indoor mini-golf fundraiser, an event that will raise money to buy new tables for the library's children's room.
The room was
substantially redecorated in November
, when new walls and shelves were installed. But the job won't be done until some new tables are there, she said.
All proceeds from the April 13 mini-golf event will go toward buying new tables, said the director. Tickets - $5 per child, $10 per adult or $25 per family - can be
bought online
. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.
