The Roxbury STEAM Expo is Tomorrow at EMS!
 Roxbury's K-6 STEAM Expo is tomorrow Saturday, March 9th at Eisenhower Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon. Come check out more than 100 student created sustainable themed projects focused on
Seeds of Sustainability.
Students this year were asked to touch on sustainable topics and just some of the projects we can't wait to see include how they've upcycled recyclable materials, how global warming and green house gases affect our planet, other alternative energy sources like wind turbines, various gardening and composting experiments, along with how we can better clean up oil spills.
Be sure to come and check out their projects!
We will also have different vendors and groups promoting STEAM-related themes like the Morris County MUA, Roxbury Clean Communities, Lake Hopatcong Foundation, Mad Science, The Girl Scout STAR Lab, and more! Be sure to stop by to check them all out!
This year's Roxbury K-6 STEAM Expo: Seeds of Sustainability will be partially funded through a Sustainable Jersey for Schools and NJEA grant awarded to the district on February 4th.
Roxbury Schools Go Global with Annual Multicultural Expo
 The Roxbury High School Dining Hall was jam packed with color, food, performances, spectators, and energy at the fourth annual Global Hi-5 Multicultural Expo on February 21st. More than 500 students, organizations, families, and community members came out to take part in this festive event.
The event invited tourists to get their passports stamped while their five senses were tantalized through international expressions of cuisine, music, arts, crafts, costumes, dance performances, and so much more! In addition to the 14 country expos (filled with artifacts, food, brochures, fun-facts, posters, pictures, and instruments, etc.) to visit there was continuous entertainment going on at center stage and for the second year they had an Olympic-style parade of international costumes ending with a community circle dance activity. Square Dancing at Franklin School
 Families at Franklin Elementary School in Roxbury Township were feeling a "little bit country" at their annual Square Dance Night on February 7th. Students became the teachers showing their parents all the square dance moves they learned during their recent dance unit.
Besides square dance songs, parents and students also danced to favorites like the Macarena, the Alley Cat, the Hokey Pokey, and Cotton Eye Joe.

'Living Zoo' with Grade 2 at Franklin School
 Franklin Elementary School in Roxbury Township was a zoo on February 22nd, quite literally. Second graders in Mrs. Manney's, Mrs. Miller's, and Mrs. Sarrel's classes put on a "Living Zoo" for the school where each student portrayed an animal that they had researched during the reading and writing non-fiction units of study.
Parents and the other students in the school were invited to visit the zoo and walk amongst the "animals". At each exhibit, you could read interesting facts about the animal, their habitat, what it eats, the size of the animal, and much more!

Jefferson Elementary School Celebrates with Seussical Week
 Students at Jefferson Elementary School in Roxbury Township celebrated Read Across America last week with fun-filled spirit days of Crazy Hair Day, Hat Day, and Dress like a Seuss Character Day.
The week wrapped up with a Jefferson PTA Family Night on Friday, March 1st to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.
Students were even treated to a few special guest readers, one being Roxbury Police Chief Marc Palanchi who came to read Enemy Pie at the opening gathering. Following the story, he held a brief Q&A with the students where he emphasized important topics such as kindness, tolerance, and inclusion all of which ties into the Jefferson ROCKS (Respect Others, Self, Environment by being Courteous, Kind, and Safe) school motto. Other special guest readers included Jennifer Toupet and Michelle Marzocca, Roxbury teachers who are no longer at Jefferson School but still in the district.
The Family Night also treated students to a slide presentation that featured celebrities, local heroes, and students all reading for enjoyment. The beach-themed evening was complete with boardwalk-style games, crafts that highlighted Seuss' books like The Cat in the Hat and One Fish, Two Fish, cotton candy, and popcorn. Roxbury's Kindergarten Registration for Next Year
 Roxbury Township Public Schools is now accepting Kindergarten registrations for the 2019/2020 school year.
Children must be five years old on or before October 1, 2019 to participate.
Roxbury Schools offers a full-day kindergarten program designed to develop knowledge and skills in the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive areas.
To register for Kindergarten, parents must bring their child's original birth certificate, record of immunizations, and three proofs of residency at the time of registration. To access more details, visit

Roxbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019
The Roxbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has announced the RHS Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019. This class, comprised of six athletes, one coach, one team, and one athletic contributor, will be the fifth group to be inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. These inductees represent over five decades of Gaels' athletic tradition.
The formal induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. at Roxbury High School located at 1 Bryant Drive in Succasunna.
Tickets are $29 for adults and $15 for children under 14 and can be purchased in the Roxbury High School Athletic Office at 1 Bryant Drive, Succasunna, NJ 07876, or by calling Stu Mason at 973 584 1200 x 1254.

Personal bests, top honors at NJSIAA Meet of Champions

Congrats to Ricky Vasconcellos who finished in 9th place overall, with the 7th fastest time in the state in the Men's 100 yard Breaststroke. Ricky broke the school record twice in 24 hours. In total, he lowered the school record by nearly three seconds and was Roxbury's first top ten finish in the event since 2003!

Volunteer for a Local Clean Up in Black River Park
Join Raritan Headwaters with their 29th Annual Stream Cleanup on Saturday April 13th from 9-12 at Black River Park at 1 Main Street in Succasunna.
Help to keep this trail and its' waters trash-free! Ramsey Outdoors will be there offering canoes to help reach the trash at the water's edge.

RHS Spring Musical: Les Misérables at RHS - Mar 8-9
 The Roxbury High School's spring musical Les Misérables Students Edition, by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Shows will run this Friday through Saturday, March 8-9th at 7:00 p.m. or on Saturday, March 9th at 1 p.m. at Roxbury High School located at 1 Bryant Drive in Succasunna, NJ. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at the door, if the show isn't already sold out!
Roxbury High School's drama program comprised of 87 students with another 25 in the set and technical crew will put on this epic, grand and uplifting tale of passion and redemption during the throes of revolution.

RHS mini-THON Donor Drive Now Open - Mar 15
 Mini-THON is both an event and a club at RHS. Modeled off Penn State's THON, the event is an overnight fundraiser for pediatric cancer, which takes place on Friday, March 15th from 7pm to 7am. Leading up to the event, hundreds of students fundraise to participate in a night of no sitting and no sleeping, as everyone literally stands for the cause.
All proceeds from the event go to the non-profit organization, Four Diamonds, which supports cancer research and covers medical bills for families.
mini-THON is also a club, where multiple committees come together to plan and organize the event during the year leading up. This includes food, entertainment, games, logistics, and many more. Last year our club raised $78,578.80, with 500 students participating, which has brought our grand total to $170,000 across our first 5 years.

Save the Date for Mary Poppins Jr. Spring Musical at EMS and Upcoming Fundraisers
 Ticket Reservation forms are now being accepted for Eisenhower Middle School's spring musical Mary Poppins Jr., by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time and the Broadway musical that played over 2,500 performances. This Broadway Junior musical is capturing hearts in a whole new way and
will run at EMS Thursday and Friday, April 11-12th at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, April 13th at 2 p.m. at the middle school located at 47 Eyland Avenue in Succasunna, NJ. Tickets are $10 each and the ticket reservation form can be found online at

. Tickets will also be sold at the door for any of the performances provided that they are not sold out.

- Dining to Donate at The Barn Restaurant Fundraiser in Randolph on April 4th from 4-11 p.m. - Leave your receipt at the door and a percentage of the proceeds will go to benefit the EMS Drama Club.

Construction Industry Career Day - May 28-29
Career Exploration is vital for students and others looking to make informed decisions about their career and education options. This event will provide all who attend with sufficient information regarding construction career options, educational requirements, stackable and transferable credentials, wage progressions and in some cases college credits.

Sixth Year for Roxbury Teen's Anti-Cancer Baseball Tournament
 This will be its sixth year, so can we now call the Landon Monro Stand Up To Cancer Baseball Tournament a Roxbury tradition?
The tournaments, started in 2014 by Succasunna teenager Landon Monro, have raised more than $24,000 for cancer research. So even if the annual event needs to run a few more years before attaining "tradition" status, it's still quite an accomplishment.
Monro, now 16 and a Roxbury High School junior, is hoping the 2019 installment is bigger and better than ever. It will take place at the Righter Road baseball fields on June 15.
The "fun, non-competitive" tournament is open to players of all ages (adults will play softball) and costs $26 per player. Monro is also seeking contributions from non-players in the form of donations and sponsorships.

RHS Preschool Program Starting Soon!
 Looking for something for your preschooler that's not a full-time commitment? Then look no further! Roxbury High School's preschool program is now accepting enrollments for their October 2nd start date.
The program for three-year-olds meets Wednesday through Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Roxbury High School for $75 a month.

Roxbury Township Public Schools are continuously collecting "Box Tops for Education" at our K-8 schools.
This is an easy, practically effortless way to raise funds for our schools by purchasing items you buy all the time.

Roxbury's Rachel Lessig Inducted into Monmouth Phi Eta Sigma
 Landing resident Rachel Lessig was inducted March 1 into the Monmouth University Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.
Students who are honored with induction earned grade point averages greater than 3.5 during their first semester.
Lessig also made the university's Dean's List for the Fall 2018 semester.

Roxbury Alumni Directory Project with PCI
 If you're one of our 17,000 alumni, you may be receiving a postcard, email, or phone call from Publishing Concepts Inc. (PCI). We're working with PCI to produce an updated alumni directory. If you graduated before 2014, PCI (formally Harris Connect) is the same company that did our last two bound directories. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with classmates and friends, and it helps the school keep track of where everyone has gone!
We want to make it easier for you to connect with fellow Gaels, which is why we're compiling the Roxbury Alumni Directory. The extensive directory will be available in both hardcover and digital form for any alumni who wish to purchase it and will be a valuable tool for Gaels looking to reconnect with classmates or broaden their Gaels network.

Roxbury Alumni Association -- Get Involved!
The Roxbury Alumni Association was established in the early 1900s and formally incorporated in 1968. Every year the Alumni Association provides a scholarship to a graduating senior. The association also purchases a Echo yearbook and donates it to the Roxbury Township Library for its archive.
Membership is only $10 and with your gift, you directly support the ability for the Alumni Association to continue giving a RHS grad a scholarship. You are also supporting the association as it develops new programs and events for you to enjoy.
Looking to get involved? The Roxbury Alumni Association is looking to expand its current board of directors. They are looking for energetic alumni interested in getting involved with the Association and to add new members to its board. Roxbury Optimistic About Turf Field Despite Budget Busting Bids
 Bids to prepare Horseshoe Lake Park for an artificial turf field came in higher than anticipated, but township officials still believe the field can be installed this year and within budget.
The township budgeted about $1.5 million for the entire project, including the artificial turf. They are planning to buy the turf and field lighting through a governmental co-op program.
That program does not include most other site work, such as surveys, ground preparation, drainage, fencing, irrigation systems and a new scoreboard. Bids recently submitted by eight contractors for that work ranged from $705,500 to $1.2 million, amounts that leave little room for the turf and lights. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

LHF Opens Biggest Lake Event "Block Party" to all Vendors and Sponsors
 The Biggest Annual Event around Lake Hopatcong that draws over 3,000 people is now open to all Vendors and Sponsors Registration.
The sixth annual Lake Hopatcong Block Party, which offers businesses and organizations a chance to showcase their work for an anticipated 3,000 guests, is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Hopatcong State Park, 260 Lakeside Blvd., Landing, N.J.
This is the biggest event around the lake this year. The event is hosted by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation (LHF), the event also features entertainment, numerous food and drink options, live demonstrations, boat and mini-train rides, boat displays, and an activity area especially for children. Roxbury Launches Online 'Recycling Coach'
 The township announced the roll-out of a "really great and useful tool" to help residents be good recyclers.
By using the "Recycle Coach" platform - either as a smartphone app on their mobile devices or through a link on the township's website, residents can
stay organized with custom curbside collection and events calendars, r
eceive collection reminders and real-time updates on service disruptions, b
ecome recycling experts with a comprehensive "What Goes Where?" search tool, including local disposal information and collection requirements for common and uncommon items, t
ake the "What Type of Recycler Are You?" quiz for useful recycling tips and tricks, and u
se the problem-reporting tool, equipped with geo-location, to notify municipal customer services about issues like missed collections

Roxbury Officials Urge Everybody to Create 'Smart 911' Profile
 All Roxbury residents are being asked to sign-in to a new "smart" 911 database, especially those who rely solely on cell phones and do not have "copper-wire" home phones.
The new system, unveiled in May by Morris County, allows emergency first-responders to associate addresses with cell phone numbers. It also allows people to create profiles that can include important details such as medical requirements, the presence of pets and special access codes for gates and security systems, said Roxbury Department of Public Works Director Rick Blood. Buy-A-Brick Campaign to Help Improve Main Street
 Roxbury Township's Main Street Committee invites you to help support their fundraising efforts to continue the beautification of Main St. in Succasunna. Memorial/honorary engraved bricks are still available for sale. The bricks are installed in the courtyard surrounding the Victorian Clock by the Gazebo at the Library.

Mt Arlington Rec is a group of volunteers appointed by the Mayor with the goal to coordinate and administer the recreation needs of the Borough. They work together with community volunteers to offer quality recreational programs for the entire family.
