EMS Annual Student Unity Tour Raises Funds for Roxbury Police
Seventh and eighth graders from Eisenhower Middle School participated in its third annual EMS Student Unity Tour Wednesday afternoon under clear blue sunny skies and warm weather at Horseshoe Lake Park.

Over 100 middle schoolers and some staff rode their bikes and cheered on their classmates to raise money for the National Police Unity Tour.

Eighth graders led off the event behind Roxbury Police Officer Silvio Valdes. Valdes was tasked in leading the way by Chief Marc Palanchi. Palanchi shared with the students that Valdes would be retiring in February and this might be his last tour. Student riders and staff rode two laps (3.5 miles) around Horseshoe Lake Park to honor Police Officers that had fallen in the line of duty. EMS students were fortunate enough to ride alongside many of the local police officers that participated in the National Unity Tour a few weeks ago to Washington, D.C. Clouds Part, Colors Fly at Annual Roxbury Color Fun Run
On an drizzly Sunday morning at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna, rain clouds parted just in time for this year's Color Fun Run.  The event, hosted by the Roxbury Rotary/Interact Club, was conducted in support of Matt Adonis, a fourth grader at Nixon Elementary School who is battling a brain tumor.

This year's Color Fun Run boasted 569 participants who helped raise $14,627 to be given directly to Matt Adonis and his family. Matt's mother, Alyssa Adonis, said the funds raised Sunday will be used to pay outstanding medical bills, to take a trip with Matt and to benefit the pediatric cancer community through Matt's charity called Cheers for Matthew.

The event itself was primarily a paint-run around Horseshoe Lake Park. Children, adults and even pets crossed the finish line having turned their event shirts from white to rainbow colors by passing outposts where they were bombarded with the harmless, colorful powder. Floating 'classroom' helps students learn about Lake Hopatcong
Students in Morris County were able to get a firsthand look at New Jersey's largest lake thanks to a floating "classroom."

Fourth-grade students at the Nixon and Kennedy schools in Roxbury were on the maiden voyage of a new boat that turns Lake Hopatcong into a giant, open-air lesson. The boat is owned and operated by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation.  The students get to measure the water clarity, PH and temperatures and also look at lake organisms in microscopes.

The best thing we can do for Lake Hopatcong is teach these kids about it and how to take care of it," says foundation president Jessica Murphy. "To see it actually happening on the water, in the floating classroom, has just been so rewarding and exciting and this is just the beginning."  The group also was able to see the lake's resident bald eagle sitting on its nest. Roxbury Lacrosse Updates
Roxbury Girls Lacrosse Readies for Millburn in State Tournament Action
The Roxbury High School girls lacrosse team will face Millburn on Thursday in a quarterfinal state tournament game.  Both Roxbury and Millburn clobbered their Round 1 opponents earlier this week. The fifth-seeded Gaels beat twelfth-seeded Middletown South 14-4. Fourth-seeded Millburn trounced No. 13 Middletown North 19-7. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury. Millburn's defense steals spotlight in 6-3 tournament win over Roxbury - May 18th
A self-imposed goals-allowed threshold that was perhaps ambitious for a state tournament game seemed timidly conservative with the rousing return of a senior captain.  Tanner Partoll  was back in the lineup after missing 12 games with a broken collarbone, and had a profound impact on the proceedings from his side of the field to help fourth-seeded  Millburn  post a 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded  Roxbury  in the quarterfinals of the North, Group 3 tournament Friday in Millburn.

Roxbury grabbed a 2-1 lead 12 seconds into the second quarter with an unassisted goal by Rutgers-bound  Matt Dancsecs , but would manage only one more score over the next 35-plus minutes against a unit that looked as if it had been playing all season long - and not a mere eight games - with Partoll again figured in the equation.  Click here to read more game coverage from NJ.com. Karnitsky scores 200th career goal for Roxbury girls lacrosse - May 18th
Emma Karnitsky scored her 200th career goal and finished with four goals to lead fifth-seeded  Roxbury to a 14-11 victory against fourth-seeded Millburn in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 tournament in Millburn.  Melissa Murphy  added six goals and dished two assists.  Karnitsky now sits at 202 career goals. She is the first Roxbury player to ever reach that mark. The senior scored her 200th career goal late in the first half. Karnitsky caught a pass from Murphy close to the net a finished with her left hand to reach 200 career goals. The senior will continue her lacrosse career next year at TCNJ.  Roxbury will advance and play in the quarterfinals. Click here to read more game coverage from NJ.com. Roxbury Girls Lacrosse Eyes Group Semi-Final Championship
The Roxbury High School girls lacrosse team on Tuesday can win a shot at a state tournament group championship. To get there, the team needs to defeat Summit, the top-seeded team in its group, in the 4 p.m. semi-final.  If that happens, the Gaels will move on to face either Chatham or Mendham in the group final on May 25.  The Gaels are seeded fifth in the 2018 NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 tournament. But seeding doesn't always predict outcomes, something proven by Roxbury on Friday when it defeated fourth-seeded Millburn 14-11 in state tournament play. Roxbury Girls Lacrosse Ends Season on a High Note
The Roxbury High School girls lacrosse team ended its season with a nice win over its rivals from Randolph on Wednesday.  Despite losing its shot at a state championship, due to a 16-4 defeat on Tuesday to Summit in state Tournament action, the Gaels bounced back to beat Randolph 10-7. The team ended its year with a 15-6 record, tying the most wins in a season for a Roxbury girls lacrosse team. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Roxbury Baseball Updates
Roxbury Baseball Powers Past Watchung Hills - May 18th
The Roxbury High School baseball team won its 14 th game on Friday, rolling over Watchung Hills 9-1 at home.  Offensively, Roxbury did its damage early, scoring twice in the second inning and then five more times in the third to take an early 7-0 lead.  The victory brought the Gaels' record to 14-7-1 for a season marked with some challenging weather. Rain on Thursday forced the postponement of a scheduled game against Randolph, a contest that was then slated to take place on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Click here to read additional game coverage from Tap Into Roxbury. Roxbury Baseball Takes State Tournament First Round - May 21st

They added three more in the fourth and and another four more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 12-2, bringing the game to an end as the mercy rule went into effect. Roxbury Track & Field Updates
Roxbury Track & Field Team Needs Help Getting to Carolina Championship
The Roxbury High School track and field team has qualified to compete at the New Balance Championship in North Carolina but the athletes need help getting there.

In a request for donations, girls team captain Karly Forker said the event, in Greensboro, N.C. "is the highest level of competition for high school athletes, making it very difficult to qualify."

Roxbury qualified last year and sent 11 competitors to the meet, Forker said. She noted the highlight of the trip was the girls Sprint Medley Team finishing ninth in the country.

"That opportunity would not have been possible without the help of so many of you," Forker said. "Unfortunately, we need your help! Since schools are not allowed to pay for their athletes to compete in this meet because it is after the state sanctioned season, we need to raise money. Our booster club is able to help a little, however, our booster club is new and can only help so much."

Forker said the team has created a  Go Fund Me Page where contributors can see more information about the team and its accomplishments.

"This year, we have already qualified for the Girl's Sprint Medley, the Mixed 4x400 Meter Relay and the individual 400 Meter Dash," Forker said. "We are hopeful that we will be qualifying for more events in the next few weeks. We are reaching out to you, and other parts of the Roxbury community, to see if you are able to help. Donations are greatly appreciated and we hope you will consider helping up raise money. However, sharing this with people you know will also go a long way to help us reach our goal."

Joining Forker in the request for help were her teammates Jess Cammarata - Sprint Medley, Mixed 4x400; Bridget Doherty - Sprint Medley; Brandon Longtine - Mixed 4x400; Jordan Morris - Sprint Medley and Kevin Sembrat - Mixed 4x400, 400 Meter Dash. 10-Year Old Boy Battling Cancer Receives Generous Donation From Randolph Hockey Family
While the inter-town hockey battles on the ice between Randolph and Roxbury are fierce at every age level, when it comes to real life battles off the ice there is no hesitation to offer help to their neighbor.  Such is the case with a recent gesture of unity and support from the Randolph Varsity hockey team, when they came together to deliver good wishes and monetary donations of over $1,500 to Matt Adonis, a 10 year-old hockey player from Roxbury who is battling cancer.

The father of a Randolph varsity player, who wishes to remain anonymous, decided to challenge the team by offering to donate money to Matt's family based on their performance in each and every game for the 2017-18 season.  Click here to read more from Tap Into Newton.

Wet Grass Doesn't Stop Roxbury's Landon Monro Baseball Tournament
The pinging of aluminum bats, baseballs flying and the smell of a barbeque set the scene for the  Fifth Annual Landon Monro Baseball Tournament in Succasunna on Sunday.  The event has changed over the years - now gathering more sponsors than ever according to organizers. Despite the growth, the message of the event stays the same: having fun and raising money to help cancer patients.  Succasunna resident Landon Monro, now a Roxbury High School sophomore,  was inspired to create the event in the fall of 2013 when he saw a Stand Up to Cancer promotion at the Major League All-Star Game . Stand Up to Cancer is a nonprofit organization working to provide cancer patients with new therapies quickly. Click here to read about this year's tournament from Tap Into Roxbury.
