Portrait of a Graduate: Voting Continues Until May 16th
Throughout the school year, we have been working as a community to formalize our beliefs on the ways in which we fulfill our vision of "preparing the children of today for tomorrow" with a special focus on our Gael graduates. After multiple meetings where we garnered the input of community members, Board of Education members, administration, teachers, and students, we narrowed the focus to six themes that we collectively believe frame the skills and attributes necessary for life beyond our schools and capture the essence of our Portrait of a Graduate. These include: Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, Active Citizens, Curious Thinkers, Adaptable & Resilient, and Life Ready. Please check out the QR code below for more information about our Portrait of a Graduate and a view of the designs.

The designs were on display at the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony last Thursday evening at Roxbury High School, at the mini-golf event at the Roxbury Public Library on Saturday, at the Board of Education meeting Monday, and Roxbury Town Hall on Tuesday, before coming to adorn the lobby at Roxbury High School.

The school and public community now have an opportunity to participate in a survey to vote on the design that best captures the essence of a Portrait of a Graduate. Voting is now open and will conclude on May 16th. Vote now at  www.roxbury.org

The winning design will represent Roxbury's Portrait of a Graduate and will be revealed at the May 20th Board of Education Meeting. Click here to read more about Roxbury's Portrait of a Graduate logo reveal on our website under "In the News."

EMS Student Honored at Morris County's MS Leadership Award Dinner
Roxbury Township Public Schools is proud to announce that one of its students, Ava Thomas, an eighth-grader at Eisenhower Middle School (EMS), received the Morris County Superintendent's Middle School Leadership Award (MSLA) by the Morris County Association of School Administrators (MCASA) on Wednesday night at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany.

Ava was presented a personalized plaque to commemorate this award along with a group photo of the recipients by the MCASA. Click here to read more from our website under "In the News".

Roxbury Alumni Directory Project with PCI
If you're one of our 17,000 alumni, you may be receiving a postcard, email, or phone call from Publishing Concepts Inc. (PCI). We're working with PCI to produce an updated alumni directory. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with classmates and friends, and it helps the school keep track of where everyone has gone!

We want to make it easier for you to connect with fellow Gaels, which is why we're compiling the Roxbury Alumni Directory. The extensive directory will be available in both hardcover and digital form for any alumni who wish to purchase it and will be a valuable tool for Gaels looking to reconnect with classmates or broaden their Gaels network.

Enjoy the memories and remember every day is a great day to be a Gael! Click here to find out more regarding our Roxbury Alumni Directory Project.

Roxbury Included in JCP&L's 2019 Tree Trimming Program to Enhance Reliability
Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) plans to trim trees along more than 3,300 miles of power lines in April and May, including those in Roxbury. This work helps keep power flowing to customers around the clock by preventing tree-related outages.  Conducted by certified forestry contractors under the company's direction, JCP&L's tree trimming program includes inspecting vegetation near the lines to ensure trees are pruned in a manner that helps preserve the health of the tree, while also maintaining proper clearances around electrical equipment.  Trees that present a danger or are diseased may also be removed. Since the beginning of the year, tree contractors have trimmed more than 1,010 circuit miles of electric lines in the JCP&L service area, with an additional 2,320 miles expected to be completed by year end. The company plans to spend nearly $31 million in 2019 on its tree-trimming program. Foundation Urges Blue Signs for Lake Hopatcong Property Owners
More than 700 owners of docks and boathouses on Lake Hopatcong have purchased blue number signs designed to help during water emergencies. The Lake Hopatcong Foundation is urging more to do the same.  The signs, introduced in 2016, are part of a program called the Blue Signs Are For Emergencies (B-SAFE) Dock Numbering Program. Their numbers "are linked to each lakefront property's 911 street address and are designed to help emergency personnel efficiently respond to calls by land or water," said the non-profit organization today.  The Foundation said its goal in selling the 8-inch-by-16-inch signs is to "improve emergency response times and safety on Lake Hopatcong." It noted the signs do not reveal any personal information. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Roxbury Woman's Club Busy with Spring Activities
Roxbury Woman's Club is buzzing with activity this spring.  During April, the Home Life Team helped out Roxbury Social Services with donations of candy, toys, books and personal items and created 25 Easter baskets for children and teens.  The team leader noticed a food pantry refrigerator with broken shelves and questionable cooling ability and quickly gained club approval to purchase a new one. Our Conservation Team looks forward to filling its shelves with summer produce from their plot in the Roxbury Community Garden.

If you noticed pinwheels spinning at the Club's adopted garden spot at the corner of Eyland Avenue and Route 10W, that's the annual April project of the Conservation Team. The pinwheels signify the club's dedication to preventing child abuse. Everyone is urged to engage in activities that strengthen families and communities to provide the optimal environment for children to learn, grow and thrive. All children deserve the benefit of a happy, healthy and safe childhood.   Help us help Soles4Souls from now through June 30 to collect 1,000 pairs of shoes and "Wear Out Poverty." Minor Rate Increase in Proposed Roxbury Town Budget - May 7th
The municipal portion of the average Roxbury homeowner's tax bill will increase by about $17 per year under a new township budget introduced by the Roxbury Mayor and Council on Tuesday.  Residents will be allowed to comment about the proposed $29,770,318 budget at a public hearing scheduled for May 7 at 7:30 p.m. in town hall.

The budget represents an overall decrease of $808,102 from the 2018 budget, but the amount to be raised by taxation increases from $22,788,146 to $22,965,203 to make up for a slight dip in miscellaneous revenue and a $100,000 reduction in surplus used to offset the budget, officials said.
