Kennedy's Early Act Holds Thanksgiving Food Drive
 Members of the Roxbury Township Police Department showed up at Kennedy Elementary School this afternoon. It wasn't for a crime but an act of goodwill.
Kennedy Elementary School's Early Act Club Advisors, Tina Banta and Rebecca Peppel reached out to the Police Department to see if they could continue to be a part of their annual food drive.
In recent years, Banta and Peppel, as third grade teachers would bring their classes this time of year to drop off food drive items and then tour the police station as they covered civics and community workers. The two have since been moved up to fourth grade.
Knowing that no trip was planned, Banta reached out to Jen Dillard at the Police Department to see about having the Police Department come to them.
Dillard enthusiastically accepted sharing, "We are doing a food drive again this year for Thanksgiving and we would love to come pick up the items from the kids."
Kennedy's Early Act heard the call and started a Thanksgiving Food Drive at the school during the month of November. Each class collected donations and the class with the most donated food for the food pantry would win a special treat.
All of the donated food from Kennedy School and the Police Department will be delivered by the end of today, just in time for Thanksgiving. Click here to read more about this collection!
'We Are Thankful for Our Community' at Nixon School
 Second graders at Nixon Elementary School took a moment this Thanksgiving season to thank members of the community.
Alyssa Bellardino, Maureen Milde, and Kathryn Monaco, the second-grade teachers spent the week working with their second-grade students to write letters to community helpers that their students were thankful for. They even disguised their turkeys in community helper uniforms.
"Some helpers included doctors, teachers, soldiers, mail carriers, police officers, bus drivers, and so many more. The students learned the important jobs in the community, as well as the team effort that goes into making a community a safe place to live," shared Bellardino.

Kennedy School Prepares for Hour of Code with Field Trip
 Fourth graders at Kennedy Elementary School took a field last Tuesday to Eisenhower Middle School to experience just some of the amazing things happening in the EMS STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) program.
A small group of 11 fourth graders, led by their technology teacher, Karen Kovarik, visited EMS in preparation for this year's Kennedy School Hour of Code event.
Phil Moskowitz's eighth-grade students shared their STEAM projects with the younger students who interviewed them and took pictures and video with iPads. Click here to read more about the Hour of Code and what the Kennedy students learned!
Two Roxbury Schools Earn Future Ready Distinction
 Two of Roxbury's seven schools recently earned the distinction of being named as Future Ready Schools as part of Roxbury's district technology goal.
Future Ready Schools is a nationwide effort that started in 2015 in order to help school districts plan and implement personalized, research-based digital learning strategies so that all students could achieve their full potential.
New Jersey Future Ready Schools (FRS-NJ) is a certification program designed to promote digital learning readiness throughout New Jersey by providing guidance, support, direction, and resources to schools and districts.
The program will help guide the district's commitment to creating 21st century digital learning environments and ensures that the district is following best practices and provides resources to continue to expand the implementation of digital learning strategies. Eisenhower Middle School Practices Emergency Drill
 Eisenhower Middle School ran a simulated ALiCE drill last Friday covering the possibility of needing to barricade a classroom from a possible intruder.
Principal Dominick Miller provided a sample demonstration to both the seventh and eighth-grade classes in the auditorium following their "Kids Go Green" assembly sponsored by Roxbury's Clean Communities.
A handful of staff members portrayed students and Mr. Shawn Smith portrayed the teacher in a classroom setting with Miller acting as the perpetrator for both the demonstration and drill. Students were advised that during the drill only the designated projectiles should be used which included small squishy balls and toys provided in each class. These items represent Chromebooks, textbooks, backpacks, and even phones which could be used in real-life situations. The demonstration in the auditorium garnered laughs from the students with Principal Miller being "taken down" in a matter of minutes by the "students". Miller shared that during the demonstration it may be funny, but the training isn't a laughing matter and that all students and staff should take these drills seriously as it may one day save their lives, whether at school or out in some public place.

Franklin Student Urges Roxbury to Donate Socks for the Homeless with 'Sox in a Box' Project
 A Roxbury elementary school student with a big heart has launched a program to help the feet of the homeless.
Faith Hurtado, an 8-year-old who attends Franklin School in Succasunna, initiated the "Sox in a Box" program that is currently collecting new socks that will be given to homeless people in Morris County.
"Homeless people walk a lot because they do not have a place to stay and they often do not have a good pair of sox," says a poster promoting the effort. It notes that socks are "the most requested items in homeless shelters" but are the least likely to be donated.
Hurtado's goal is to give a new pair of socks to every homeless person in the county.
The socks are being collected in boxes at St. Therese Church in Succasunna and at the Roxbury Recreation Departmetn on Eyland Avenue. Additionally, people who want to donate new socks can write to Hurtado's mother, Damaris, and she will come to get them. The email address is srp.damaris@gmail.com. Roxbury Township Police Food Drive
 The Roxbury Township Police Department is assisting Roxbury Social Services in hosting a Township Thanksgiving Food Drive. Throughout November Roxbury residents will have the opportunity to donate non-perishable items at the police department. The food pantry is extremely low of supplies and is in desperate need of donations!
The day before Thanksgiving the food will be donated to Roxbury Social Services to assist low-income working families, seniors, and people with disabilities, living on fixed incomes. The food pantry exists solely on the generous donations from individuals and local businesses. Many individuals and families in our Township rely on social services and our food pantry. Any donations are welcome.

Nixon Holiday Market - December 2nd
 On December 2, 2017, Nixon Elementary School will be holding its 2nd Holiday Vendor and Craft event. The event will take place from 9-1 and will run during the PTA's holiday gift making event.
You can support this event in two ways:
- Sign up to be a vendor! We are currently looking for vendors, craftsman and local businesses that want to join us. The cost is $25 for a table during the event! Don't wait tables are going fast...
- Shop the event! While your Nixon student visits the holiday gift making, stop by and visit these local vendors and craftsman! It's a great start for holiday gift shopping.
Taco Tuesday to Benefit Roxbury Gaels Hockey - December 5th
 Help support the Roxbury High School ice hockey team by swinging by the Roxbury Senior Center for this fundraiser on Tuesday, December 5th from 6:00-8:30 p.m.

Holiday Pops Concert - December 9th

Scholarship Chance for Roxbury High Students from Mt. Arlington
 Roxbury High School students who live in Mount Arlington might be eligible for a new scholarship created in memory of former Mount Olive Mayor Arthur Ondish.
The Morris County League of Municipalities today announced the creation of the Arthur R. Ondish Memorial Scholarship, noting the $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating high school senior starting in 2018.

Roxbury Township Public Schools are continuously collecting "Box Tops for Education" at our K-8 schools.
This is an easy, practically effortless way to raise funds for our schools by purchasing items you buy all the time.

20 Questions with... Roxbury alumna Allyson Kleinsorgen
 Ally Kleinsorgen rocked Morris County as a top sprint freestyler and backstroker, winning double gold twice. The Daily Record All-Area Swimmer of the Year as a senior, Kleinsorgen owned six individual and three relay records when she graduated from Roxbury.
A junior at Boise State, Kleinsorgen won Mountain West titles in the 100 backstroke, 200 free relay, and the 200 and 400 medley relays last winter. She was a member of the Broncos' NCAA All-American honorable mention 200 free relay.

Roxbury Distinguished Alumni Award Nominations are Now Being Accepted
 The Roxbury Public Schools Distinguished Alumni Award has been established to honor alumni who have typified the Roxbury School District tradition of excellence and brought credit to our community by their personal accomplishment, professional achievement, or humanitarian service.
Recipients of this year's award will be honored at Roxbury High School's Academic Awards Night on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Roxbury High School Auditorium. Join us in celebrating these distinguished alumni!
Nominations for the 4th Annual Distinguished Alumni Award are now being accepted. Alumni, faculty, staff, students, or friends of Roxbury Schools may submit nominations by no later than February 15, 2018 for the upcoming selection year. Online submissions are preferred and can be located at

Roxbury Alumni Association -- Get Involved!
The Roxbury Alumni Association was established in the early 1900s and formally incorporated in 1968. Every year the Alumni Association provides a scholarship to a graduating senior. The association also purchases a Echo yearbook and donates it to the Roxbury Township Library for its archive.
Membership is only $10 and with your gift, you directly support the ability for the Alumni Association to continue giving a RHS grad a scholarship. You are also supporting the association as it develops new programs and events for you to enjoy.
Looking to get involved? The Roxbury Alumni Association is looking to expand its current board of directors. They are looking for energetic alumni interested in getting involved with the Association and to add new members to its board. Roxbury Community School Ski Club 2017/2018
The purpose of the Roxbury Community School's Ski and Snowboard Club is to provide students the opportunity to ski and/or snowboard at local mountain resorts. Students will be provided with transportation to and from the mountains. Students will be required to attend meetings, return all necessary forms, and pay a fee for transportation/chape

Yoga for Beginners
 Join this beginner class that introduces you to the fundamental principles of alignment and breath work in a flow of postures linked together by the breath. Participants will be introduced to yoga postures through step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. If you have never tried yoga, this is the class for you! It is designed to meet the needs of those new to yoga as well as those seeking continued understanding of basic yoga poses. This course is ideal for teens and adults. Residents Can 'Adopt A Road' in Roxbury
The NJ Clean Communities program is a comprehensive litter abatement program serving NJ residents and visitors for over 25 years.
Roxbury's Adopt-a-Road and Adopt-a-Spot programs are looking for individuals, school groups, churches, or businesses willing to donate some time to continue to keep the township trash and litter free.

County Urges Residents: Keep Plastic Bags Out Of Curbside Recycling Containers
The Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) is urging county residents to keep all types of plastic bags out of the recycling content they put at the curb for recycling collection, stressing that plastic bags are a major hindrance to recycling operations. Law Enforcement Exploring Information Session - November 27th
 Morris County Sheriff James Gannon invites all interested students, aged 14 through 20, to see what police exploring is all about!
Law Enforcement Exploring offers members access to varying dimensions of the criminal justice and corrections vocations, through experimental learning. Exploring also allows students to interact with the public while serving at community events.
Police Explorers train and learn in a paramilitary setting, under a post and rank structure, similar to those employed in law enforcement.
Why not come and see if Law Enforcement Exploring is for you on Monday, November 27th at 6:30 pm at the Morris County Public Safety Academy.
Roxbury Students Invited to Mountain Bike Team
 A recently formed interscholastic mountain biking team based in Randolph is inviting sixth-grade to 12th-grade Roxbury students to participate.
The team, called the Randolph Revolution, fields riders that compete in mountain bike races in the
New Jersey Interscholastic Cycling League (NJICL), a National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) sanctioned, statewide mountain biking league for youths, said Jeremy Klopper, one of the coaches. The Randolph Revolutions is a "composite" team that includes riders from Randolph, Roxbury, Mine Hill, Dover and Victory Gardens.
Klopper said the team was established "to provide area youth an opportunity to meet new friends and ride the local trails." The riding season runs from October through late June.

Layups 4 Life Charity Hoops Tourney Leaves Roxbury
 For the first time since its inception in 2014 by a Roxbury High School graduate, the popular Layups 4 Life 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament will not take place in Roxbury in 2018.
Tournament founder Dan Exter has moved the event to the Parsippany PAL Youth Center, a venue that offers more room than the Roxbury High School gymnasium. The departure from Roxbury is not exactly a surprise; in May, Exter told TAPinto Roxbury that the tournament - which raises money to fight cancer -
had grown to the point he needed to find a bigger site.
The 2017 tournament attracted 43 teams and raised more than $30,000 for cancer research and clinical trials at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the facility that Exter credits with saving his life after he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013.

Retelling of Three Christmas Classics
 Join JAM Theater Co. this holiday season for a bit of mystery, magic and mayhem, as they retell three Christmas Classics in their own comedic way. Filled with laughs, interactions and some pop culture too, this show is sure to help you get into the Holiday Spirit. Featuring: The Elves and the Shoemaker, Twas the Night Before Christmas and The Santa Claus Letter. Performances are Saturday, November 18th and December 2nd at noon and 3 p.m. and Sunday, November 19th and December 3rd at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for Adults, Children and Senior Citizens are $8, and Children under two are free to see on adults laps.

Carpenter & King Performance - December 9th
 Carpenter & King is a dual tribute which merges two iconic female vocalist/instrumentalists, Karen Carpenter and Carole King. With Annie Masciandaro, vocalist/drummer, performing the role of Karen and Deb De Lucca, vocalist/pianist as Carole, this show will bring you back to "Yesterday Once More" & make you want to "Sing" along. Backed by an all-star line up of musicians, these two "Beautiful Superstars" will certainly make you "Feel the Earth move", bring you "Home Again" & have you coming back for more. Tickets are
$25 online and $30 at the door day of show.

Wreaths Across American - Sponsor a Wreath
 The Ferro Monte Chapter DAR is organizing the 4th Roxbury Wreaths Across America. Our mission is to honor veterans by laying 607 wreaths on the graves of the departed servicemen and women on December 16 in the Flanders-Hillside, First Presbyterian Church and United Methodist Church cemeteries.

Roxbury 'Home for the Holidays' event is almost here! - Dec. 2nd
 This year's event will take place on Saturday December 2, 2017 from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm on Main Street in the Succasunna section of town.
This year's Home for the Holidays will be another fun-filled, family event with craft and merchandise vendors, food vendors, carriage rides with jingle-belled horses, Santa Land at the Library and live performances by various artists.
