Celebrate Diversity Month
As we close out "Celebrate Diversity Month", a month dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we encourage everyone to continue educating yourself on the different things that make us all unique!

We can carry on the practice of encouraging the acknowledgment of our differences by engaging with facets of other cultures, perspectives, and lifestyles in significant ways.

You can do these things by yourself, with your family, or even virtually with a friend.
  • Consider talking to someone from a different culture about the values and practices that they recognize
  • Read a book, watch a movie, or catch a docu-series that looks at different cultures, lifestyles, or topics from a multicultural lens
  • Listen to different types of music or learn a dance that goes along with it.
  • Try a food or new recipe that is native to a different culture.
  • Try to learn a new language via a free App or YouTube. Better yet, sign up with the Roxbury Public Library to access Rosetta Stone and start learning another language today!

Hundreds of pounds of trash and debris- including face masks- hauled from Roxbury parks
Deputy Mayor Fred Hall is always amazed at just how much trash gets picked up by volunteers during the Environmental Commission’s yearly outdoor cleanup.

On Saturday, April 17, the Roxbury Environmental Commission teamed up with the Roxbury High School Environmental Club and Honors Students, the Roxbury Trails Committee, and Ramsey Outdoors to take part in Raritan Headwaters Annual Stream Clean up.

Due to Covid-19 precautions, participation was limited to 25 participants per site, so the Roxbury Environmental Commission decided to sponsor two site locations this year-the Black River Park and Ledgewood- Morris Canal Park with the latter reserved for student participation.

The Roxbury High School students collected an estimated haul of 700 pounds of dumped trash and debris at the Ledgewood site and with the help of the Ramsey Outdoor store in Ledgewood, which provided canoes at the Black River Park location, additional debris was reachable along the banks of Black River Park. Myers’ Walk-off Sacrifice Fly Caps off Bridgewater-Raritan’s Rally Against #19 Roxbury
Coming off a 2-0 start, the Panthers welcomed #19-ranked Roxbury onto the campus of Bridgewater-Raritan High School April 23. The Gaels jumped out to a big lead early, putting the Panthers in an early hole for the second time in as many home games to start 2021. And for the second time in as many of these games, the Panthers found a way to get the job done.

After four straight hits and a sacrifice fly put Roxbury (1-2) ahead 3-0 with one out in the top of the 1st, Bridgewater-Raritan (3-0) certainly responded and did not panic. Down 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th, Michael Fattore scored the tying RBI single with two outs, and after reliever Jason Cozzi and the Panthers’ defense got out of a major jam in the top of the 7th, Bryce Myers hit the game-winning, walk-off sacrifice fly with one out to score Noah Matheson and complete a thrilling 5-4 comeback victory for the Panthers. Fast starts, streak busters & more we learned from the opening week of softball
Just four days into the N.J. softball season and there’s already plenty of teams, players and storylines that are raising eyebrows throughout the Garden State. Teams are making the most of missed opportunities and, even with a bit of a washout Wednesday, there were several chances to take stock in the world of N.J. softball. What did we notice through the opening week of the 2021 season?
  • Errichiello leading Roxbury to fast start - Every year there are underclassmen that acclimate themselves to the varsity level incredibly quick. One of those this year includes Roxbury freshman Hailey Errichiello who has produced both in the circle and at the plate for a resurgent Roxbury team. Errichiello has paced Roxbury, a team that went 7-12 in 2019, to a 3-0 start with a marquee win over Mount Olive to open the year. In those three games, Errichiello has pitched 14 innings and has yet to give up a run, allowing just five hits with striking out 22 batters. She has also been the Gaels’ top batter out of the gate. In eight at-bats she’s produced three hits (including a home run) with four RBIs and four runs. Click here to read more from NJ.com.

Softball: McCurry beats throw on game-winning sacrifice to push Sparta past Roxbury - Apr 26
With neither team yet to score a run and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Emily Jacobs stepped up to the plate, looking to give Sparta the edge it needed to take down a previously unbeaten Roxbury team. Jacobs grounded one to the left side of the infield, with Roxbury pitcher Hailey Errichiello getting her glove on the ball but unable to cleanly corral it. Errichiello scooped up the grounder and threw home for what was certain to be a bang-bang play to decide the game. McCurry, running on contact, narrowly beat the throw from the pitcher, crossing the plate just before the throw arrived and securing Sparta’s 1-0 home victory over Roxbury. Click here to read more game coverage from NJ.com.

Hailey Errichiello of Roxbury voted Morris/Sussex Softball Player of the Week
After four days of voting, Roxbury freshman Hailey Errichiello has been selected as the Morris/Sussex Softball Player of the Week for April 19-25. The Gaels freshman was an integral part of helping her team get out to a 3-0 start. She was 2-0 in the circle with 22 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched with no runs allowed on five hits. In the batter's box, Errichiello was .375 with four runs and six RBI as Roxbury knocked off Mount Olive, Mendham and Parsippany Hills. Click here to read this coverage and more from NJ Herald.

Roxbury over Kittatinny - Softball recap - Apr 28
Natalie Otto tossed a one-hitter with one run, three walks and eight strikeouts to lift Roxbury to an 11-1 five-inning victory against Kittatinny in Succasunna. Jayden Pennella hit a homerun in a 2-for-3 day at the plate with three runs batted in for Roxbury (4-1). Reese Vanderhoof recorded the lone hit for Kittatinny (1-4). Gaels Going Green
Did you know...
Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving policies and regulations outlining its position and efforts.

To that end, all seven schools in Roxbury Township attained Bronze certification through Sustainable Jersey for Schools in August 2018 and now we are striving to renew that certification and attain the next level, Silver! In this section, you will find various green initiatives, events, and tips to live a healthier, greener life. Click here for more information regarding our sustainability initiative.
Lake Hopatcong Foundation:
Help us with a little Spring Cleaning
When debris—plastic bags, bottles, cigarette butts, etc.—is tossed on the ground, it can get washed into storm drains and end up in our waterways. In addition to being unsightly, litter can harm aquatic life and decrease oxygen levels in the water when it decays. If we each take some time to clean up our communities, we can make a BIG difference. If you're itching to get a little spring cleaning done, below are two cleanups that will get you outside in the spring weather and protect our watershed at the same time. Happy spring cleaning!

LHF Adopt-A-Spot Community Cleanup

In just a quick 90 minutes, we usually make a huge difference! No registration is necessary for this event, simply meet us on Mt. Arlington Boulevard in front of the Nixon School (275 Mt Arlington Blvd., Landing) at 8:30 am. Please park your vehicles along the road in front of the school. Gloves, trash bags, and vests will be provided. Masks will be required when in groups. Click here to read about these events from Hopatcong Lake Regional News.
School Community Asset Map - You Can Help!
As part of our initiative to maintain Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification, we continuously need to update our Community Asset Map. This is a collective inventory of the positive and valued aspects of a community by identifying the places, institutions, programs, and people that contribute to making our communities great places to learn and live.

Community assets can include information on local artists, scientists, and other experts, parks, local historic buildings, and green businesses, but can also include resources like cultural activities and events, arts, cultural and service organizations, social service agencies, and community organizations that are part of the great community context.

We've come up with over 700 businesses, restaurants, educational institutions, medical facilities, transportation hubs, and community organizations since 2018, but we need your help up in updating this list as we know things are ever-changing.

Please take a few minutes and jot down a few places and/or groups that you can think of to help round out our list. Click here for more information regarding the Roxbury Community Asset Map and how you can contribute.

NJ Human Services Extends COVID-19 Child Care Assistance Programs Through End of School Year

The state will be extending several COVID-19-related child care assistance programs for families and providers through the end of June 2021. As part of the public health emergency, the state launched the New Jersey School-Age Tuition Assistance Program to help families pay for care for their school-age child in need of child care as a result of COVID-19 remote learning schools schedules.

For families who have been approved for School-Age Tuition Assistance, payments for your child’s care will now continue through June 30, 2021. No new applications are being accepted.

If you need help paying for child care, you can apply for the state’s Child Care Subsidy Program. To give you a sense of whether you would be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy Program, the income maximum for a family of four is $52,400 annually. Use our calculator to see if you are likely to be eligible or visit our parent page to learn more about this program. If you need help finding child care, contact your local Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Agency. Families can apply online at www.ChildCareNJ.gov.
