Roxbury Resiliency - June 7th Board Presentation
The Roxbury School District’s teachers, paraprofessionals, CST, counselors, and coaches were the focus Monday of a "Roxbury Resilience" observance celebrating their year dealing with COVID-19. The video presentation, shown at the Roxbury School Board meeting, was the third of four scheduled to take place before the end of the school year. Click the video image above to view that recognition presentation.
‘Military Signing Day’ at Roxbury Honors Three Seniors
The Roxbury Gaels continued its tradition of honor and excellence Wednesday morning as three seniors were recognized for their enlistment into the military.

Roxbury High School held a Military Signing Day that celebrated seniors Maxwell Fulton and Michael Hills’s enlistment into the U.S. Marine Corp along with Jacob Almakias’ decision to join the U.S. Army. These three had their signing with their friends and family.

RHS Principal Dominick Miller who helped organize the recognition shared, “We are proud to have three students commit to serve our community and country. Their dedication to our school and country will be well represented as they serve and protect our way of life.” Click here to read more on our website under "In the News".
Home Being Built by Roxbury Students is Signed by Well-Wishers
State, county and local government officials joined Roxbury school leaders Monday in ceremoniously signing wall studs of a house being built by Roxbury High School students for the Morris Habitat for Humanity affordable housing program.

The event took place outside the high school's Structural Design and Fabrication (SDF) Lab. There, 15 Roxbury High School seniors involved in the school's SDF program, have constructed half of a 3-bedroom, 1,100-square-foot modular home. When the other half is finished next year, the sections will be moved to a township-owned lot at the corner of Mansel Drive and Edith Road in Landing.

The completed home will be sold by the Habitat for Humanity program, which enables low- and moderate-income people to become homeowners. Another Habitat for Humanity housing project was built on Main Street in Succasunna and another is planned for the site of a former firehouse in Port Morris.

The goal of Monday's event was to not only display the students' work but also to allow those in attendance to leave “messages of hope on the wall studs to forever become a part of the home for a future family joining the Roxbury community,” said the school district.

Roxbury High School Structural Design and Fabrication Teacher Frank Caccavale said the project is the only one of its kind in New Jersey. At the ceremony, Caccavale presented “golden hammer” awards to three SDF students who, he said, went above and beyond in helping build the house: Michael Hills, Kyle Finnan and Randy DePalma. RHS Senior Zachary Solano with his tuba
Roxbury tubist will play free concert next month
Zachary Solano of Ledgewood, an accomplished tuba player, will be among those to play a free concert in Morris Township in July. The free concert, performed by the Hanover Wind Symphony, is entitled "Bring People To Music and Music To People... Again" and will be staged at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, in an open air format at Ginty Field on Woodland Avenue in Morris Township.

Audience members should come to the concert with lawn chairs or blankets, and observe all applicable CDC guidelines.

The 2020 Hanover Wind Symphony summer music scholarship winner and an accomplished tubist, Zachary Solano of Ledgewood, a graduating senior at Roxbury High School, will be playing with the wind band on July 6. He will perform a tuba solo as part of "Beelzebub," by Andrea Catozzi.

Reflecting on the past year, Solano says, "When the pandemic forced all of us to quarantine and caused my school to become virtual, I was shocked at how different things would be for me as I settled into my 'new normal,' but saw an opportunity to make the most of the almost infinite time I had been given. I had to adapt quickly, but I was able to rise to the challenge. I began spending all of my free time practicing the tuba, and used the money awarded to me by the Hanover Wind Symphony to take lessons with world-renowned musicians.

"Although the pandemic has been challenging, I am grateful for the time I have been afforded to focus on my craft. A silver lining is that Covid-19 allowed me to become a more mature musician, and the generosity of the Hanover Wind Symphony made many of the experiences I had during the pandemic possible."

The 85-member Hanover Wind Symphony is a unique extension of the great American tradition of adult music performance. One of only a handful of outstanding, community-based, adult wind bands in New Jersey, the Hanover Wind Symphony delights audiences of all ages by giving a contemporary twist to traditional favorites. The large orchestra is made up exclusively of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. For further information about the summer concert, visit www.hanoverwinds.org. Gaels Going Green
Did you know...
Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving policies and regulations outlining its position and efforts.

To that end, all seven schools in Roxbury Township attained Bronze certification through Sustainable Jersey for Schools in August 2018 and now we are striving to renew that certification and attain the next level, Silver! In this section, you will find various green initiatives, events, and tips to live a healthier, greener life. Click here for more information regarding our sustainability initiative.
The Lake Hopatcong Foundation's Floating Classroom is setting sail this summer! Cruises every Monday 11 a.m. July 12th to August 30th.

Guests can reserve a spot for discovery and take part in hands-on science experiences with various types of lake monitoring equipment.

Pricing: Children (17 and under) = $15; Adult = $20; and Seniors (65+) = $18.

Click here to view this event flyer in our Virtual Backpack.
School Community Asset Map - You Can Help!
As part of our initiative to maintain Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification, we continuously need to update our Community Asset Map. This is a collective inventory of the positive and valued aspects of a community by identifying the places, institutions, programs, and people that contribute to making our communities great places to learn and live.

Community assets can include information on local artists, scientists, and other experts, parks, local historic buildings, and green businesses, but can also include resources like cultural activities and events, arts, cultural and service organizations, social service agencies, and community organizations that are part of the great community context.

We've come up with over 700 businesses, restaurants, educational institutions, medical facilities, transportation hubs, and community organizations since 2018, but we need your help up in updating this list as we know things are ever-changing.

Please take a few minutes and jot down a few places and/or groups that you can think of to help round out our list. Click here for more information regarding the Roxbury Community Asset Map and how you can contribute.

'Library of Things' now offered by the Roxbury Public Library
Have a temporary need for a full-sized metal detector? How about a sewing machine? How about a very practical "check engine" meter, to figure out why that pesky light won't go out on the dashboard.

Patrons of the Roxbury Township Public Library, located on Main Street in Succasunna, can borrow each of these things, and many more, with their library card. How about an over-sized Jenga game? Or an ice cream maker? What if a library were meant to offer more than books and media?

Lakefront, numbered dock signs still available on Lake Hopatcong
The Lake Hopatcong Foundation calls them "A simply sign for a safer lake." Since 2016, according to the non-profit foundation, which is headquartered in Landing, little blue and white signs, attached to docks, boathouses, and even shoreline trees, have been popping up all around Lake Hopatcong.

These signs are B-SAFE (Blue Signs Are For Emergencies) dock numbers and are designed to help emergency personnel efficiently respond to calls by land or water. The Dock Numbering Program, launched by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, aims to improve emergency response times and safety on Lake Hopatcong. Each dock number is linked to that lakefront property’s 9-1-1 street address. If an emergency occurs, an accurate location can be reported using the nearest dock number as a reference point.

Lakefront property owners may voluntarily purchase and post a B-SAFE dock number sign anywhere it can be easily seen from the water. Signs can be purchased through the Lake Hopatcong Foundation at lakehopatcongfoundation.org. Signs ordered by June 25 will be delivered in July. Click here to read more from the Roxbury Register.

NJ Human Services Extends COVID-19 Child Care Assistance Programs Through End of School Year

The state will be extending several COVID-19-related child care assistance programs for families and providers through the end of June 2021. As part of the public health emergency, the state launched the New Jersey School-Age Tuition Assistance Program to help families pay for care for their school-age child in need of child care as a result of COVID-19 remote learning schools schedules.

For families who have been approved for School-Age Tuition Assistance, payments for your child’s care will now continue through June 30, 2021. No new applications are being accepted.

If you need help paying for child care, you can apply for the state’s Child Care Subsidy Program. To give you a sense of whether you would be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy Program, the income maximum for a family of four is $52,400 annually. Use our calculator to see if you are likely to be eligible or visit our parent page to learn more about this program. If you need help finding child care, contact your local Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Agency. Families can apply online at www.ChildCareNJ.gov.
