June is PRIDE Month

TRADITIONS FOR PRIDE MONTH
Pride Month is for everyone to embrace who they are and let the world know — in style! The rainbow aptly signifies the colorful activities and flavors of this month-long celebration. These include massive rallies, pride parades, parties, workshops, concerts, and countless more LGBTQ+ events to attract participants from all over. The Pride community takes huge pride in their movement, going all out for the festivities with elaborate costumes, makeup, and, of course, glitter — so that they sparkle for the whole world to see!

Commemorations and memorials are also held for members of the community who have lost their lives to hate crimes and HIV/AIDS. Campaigns and rallies aim to promote and preserve the history and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

RHS Digital Literacy Magazine
Literacy Magazine is Roxbury High School’s creative writing club. Their goal this year was to get as many people involved as possible and publish student writing, despite the obstacles the pandemic presented. Not only did they receive contributions from writers of all levels of experience and all grades, but they received several pieces from faculty members as well.

They were also fortunate enough to receive personalized artwork from students to pair with the writing. They would like to thank every single person who contributed to this year’s magazine as well as every reader who takes the time to appreciate the hard work of the featured creatives.

We hope that by the time you finish reading this magazine, you will have had your spirits lifted, your sorrows comforted, and your minds satisfied.

Artistic Talent on Display
at Senior Art Show
Twenty Roxbury High School seniors displayed their artistic artwork and skill at this year’s Annual Senior Art Show on Thursday, June 3rd for family, friends, staff, and classmates. Students showed off created pieces, sold prints and other artistic creations, and answered questions during their open gallery spaces.

Seniors featured this year were Laurel Cousineau, Aidan Crysler, Elizabeth Doyle, Ash Dunlap, Jordan Farina, Anne Gede, Alexa Hernandez, Haley Lang, Emma Mango, Niko Minnella, Sheryl Peng, Olivia Post, Donatella Salvia, Celta Simmons, Amy Storbeck, Sheniah Syrus-McDonald, Jessica Vassoler, Katlen Weng, Rebecca Wood, and Samantha Wrobel.

This year students completed a sustained investigation section as part of their AP Art and Design Portfolio exams. This offered students the opportunity to make and present works of art and design based on an in-depth investigation of materials, processes, and ideas done over time. A sustained investigation is work united by a single guiding inquiry. It involves practice, experimentation, and revision using materials, processes, and ideas. Along with each work, students were required to submit written responses to prompts about the work. Click here to read more on our website under "In the News".

Schroeder, Findlay each toss 1-hitters, but Schroeder’s Delbarton team wins MCT, 1-0 - May 29
About an inning into it, it became quite apparent that the Morris County Tournament final between Delbarton and Roxbury was going to come down to the slimmest of margins. And in a game that featured a grand total of two hits, an unearned run manufactured by the Green Wave made all the difference. An error, a bunt, a wild pitch, and a ground ball to second. That was all Delbarton needed to edge Roxbury, 1-0, in a pitcher’s duel in the MCT final at Montville High School on Saturday night. Click here to read more from NJ.com.

Baseball: Bosland Ks 12 as Roxbury edges Tenafly in North, Section 1, Group 3 opener - June 2
Justin Bosland struck out 12 and walked none, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) in a complete-game effort on the mound to lead fourth-seeded to a win at home over 13-seed Tenafly, 4-3, in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament. Bosland helped his own cause by hitting an RBI triple to kick off a four-run rally in the bottom of the first inning, capped by an RBI double from Nick Morales. Roxbury’s four runs in the bottom of the first would be enough, with Tenafly getting back two in the top of the fourth but Bosland remaining otherwise unblemished. Roxbury (12-14) will face the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between fifth-seeded Wayne Hills and 12-seed Bergenfield in the quarterfinal round on Saturday. Chris Arp singled once and scored once, also pitching five scoreless innings of relief for Tenafly, which falls to 9-16 with the loss. Click here to read this coverage from NJ.com.

Roxbury will take on the two-seed Morris Catholic Crusaders at 7 p.m. Click here to read more game coverage from TAPinto Roxbury.

Morris Knolls scored a run each in its half of the second, the third and the fourth to open up a 5-2 lead. Kayla Hua had two hits to lead Morris Knolls while Lea Kleczkowski had the win in the circle, giving up the three runs, two earned, on four hits, a walk and a hit batter, striking out three. Cam Fehsal led Roxbury with two hits. Now 12-10, Morris Knolls will head to Mount St. Dominic, No. 2 in the NJ.com Top 20, on Friday. Roxbury (15-5) saw a five-game win streak snapped and will head to Chatham on Friday. Click here to read this coverage from NJ.com.

Gaels Going Green
Did you know...
Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving policies and regulations outlining its position and efforts.

To that end, all seven schools in Roxbury Township attained Bronze certification through Sustainable Jersey for Schools in August 2018 and now we are striving to renew that certification and attain the next level, Silver! In this section, you will find various green initiatives, events, and tips to live a healthier, greener life. Click here for more information regarding our sustainability initiative.
The Lake Hopatcong Foundation's Floating Classroom is setting sail this summer! Cruises every Monday 11 a.m. July 12th to August 30th.

Guests can reserve a spot for discovery and take part in hands-on science experiences with various types of lake monitoring equipment.

School Community Asset Map - You Can Help!
As part of our initiative to maintain Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification, we continuously need to update our Community Asset Map. This is a collective inventory of the positive and valued aspects of a community by identifying the places, institutions, programs, and people that contribute to making our communities great places to learn and live.

Community assets can include information on local artists, scientists, and other experts, parks, local historic buildings, and green businesses, but can also include resources like cultural activities and events, arts, cultural and service organizations, social service agencies, and community organizations that are part of the great community context.

We've come up with over 700 businesses, restaurants, educational institutions, medical facilities, transportation hubs, and community organizations since 2018, but we need your help up in updating this list as we know things are ever-changing.

Please take a few minutes and jot down a few places and/or groups that you can think of to help round out our list. Click here for more information regarding the Roxbury Community Asset Map and how you can contribute.

'Library of Things' now offered by the Roxbury Public Library
Have a temporary need for a full-sized metal detector? How about a sewing machine? How about a very practical "check engine" meter, to figure out why that pesky light won't go out on the dashboard.

Patrons of the Roxbury Township Public Library, located on Main Street in Succasunna, can borrow each of these things, and many more, with their library card. How about an over-sized Jenga game? Or an ice cream maker? What if a library were meant to offer more than books and media?

According to a release issued by the library Wednesday, the staff has significantly expanded its lending collection to include dozens of new items. This new collection is called the "Library of Things." The collection provides library cardholders access to a wide variety of things -- many of which might be used only a few times per year -- without the burden of purchasing and storing infrequently used objects.

The library staff curated the new collection. The borrowing period varies depending on the thing but will be up to two weeks. So what’s on the lending menu?

Roxbury Township Manager John Shepherd said that will be enough to cover the envisioned work. ..The site is owned by the state as part of Hopatcong State Park, but Roxbury will be leasing it. ..Although the site is currently open to the public, the goal is to improve its appearance and make it more user-friendly. NJ Human Services Extends COVID-19 Child Care Assistance Programs Through End of School Year

The state will be extending several COVID-19-related child care assistance programs for families and providers through the end of June 2021. As part of the public health emergency, the state launched the New Jersey School-Age Tuition Assistance Program to help families pay for care for their school-age child in need of child care as a result of COVID-19 remote learning schools schedules.

For families who have been approved for School-Age Tuition Assistance, payments for your child’s care will now continue through June 30, 2021. No new applications are being accepted.

If you need help paying for child care, you can apply for the state’s Child Care Subsidy Program. To give you a sense of whether you would be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy Program, the income maximum for a family of four is $52,400 annually. Use our calculator to see if you are likely to be eligible or visit our parent page to learn more about this program. If you need help finding child care, contact your local Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Agency. Families can apply online at www.ChildCareNJ.gov.
