Rox-THON 2021 is almost here!
Help Support the Fight Against Pediatric Cancer
Roxbury High School’s Rox-THON is Friday, May 21st and will run from 5-8 p.m. for students in grades 9-12 with a capacity of 150 students. The event will be outside and feature different covid-friendly games/activities and will feature music and an hourly “line dance”.

The high school club was founded with the ideals of supporting families and donating funds for pediatric cancer and this year the determination to continue with the cause has been unwavering.

“The event will certainly look different compared to previous years, but we’re excited to continue supporting this cause. It’s important to remember that while the world shut down over the last year, families continued to hear the devasting news that “your child has cancer”. We are hoping to spread the word and encourage our community to support this worthwhile cause,” shared Rox-THON advisor Mike Gottfried.

“We’re also looking into the option of livestreaming parts of our event: our welcome and “family hour”, which features guest speakers including Senator Bucco, Chrissy Aulenbach (former district employee who lost her son Henry in December 2019), Kelly Blanchette (Child Life Specialist at the Valerie Center at Goryeb Children’s Hospital), and Willow Bradley (current senior whose sister passed away from cancer this past year).”

Over $300,000 has been raised in the past seven years with the majority of the efforts generated by student leadership.

Click here to help support this cause or to purchase a 2021 Rox-THON t-shirt or send a check (made payable to “RHS Rox-THON”) to Roxbury High School Attn: Mike Gottfried, 1 Bryant Dr. Succasunna, NJ 07876. Gaels Going Green
Did you know...
Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving policies and regulations outlining its position and efforts.

To that end, all seven schools in Roxbury Township attained Bronze certification through Sustainable Jersey for Schools in August 2018 and now we are striving to renew that certification and attain the next level, Silver! In this section, you will find various green initiatives, events, and tips to live a healthier, greener life. Click here for more information regarding our sustainability initiative.
School Community Asset Map - You Can Help!
As part of our initiative to maintain Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification, we continuously need to update our Community Asset Map. This is a collective inventory of the positive and valued aspects of a community by identifying the places, institutions, programs, and people that contribute to making our communities great places to learn and live.

Community assets can include information on local artists, scientists, and other experts, parks, local historic buildings, and green businesses, but can also include resources like cultural activities and events, arts, cultural and service organizations, social service agencies, and community organizations that are part of the great community context.

We've come up with over 700 businesses, restaurants, educational institutions, medical facilities, transportation hubs, and community organizations since 2018, but we need your help up in updating this list as we know things are ever-changing.

Please take a few minutes and jot down a few places and/or groups that you can think of to help round out our list. Click here for more information regarding the Roxbury Community Asset Map and how you can contribute.

Rotary walk to fight stigma associated with mental health and substance use disorders - May 22
The Rotary Clubs in the area will be holding Awareness Walks in four different locations on the morning of Saturday, May 22 to help raise awareness of the stigma caused by mental health issues and substance use disorder. The one-mile walks will take place in Clinton, Denville, Madison and Robbinsville.

The event is designed to inform the public that the problems people face with mental illness and substance use disorders are not subjects of shame or embarrassment but are medical issues that can be addressed and treated. The goal is to eliminate stigma associated with mental health and substance use disorders through education. Stigma is the primary barrier to those with mental health and substance use disorders to seek help.

The first 150 people to register at each site will receive a free T-Shirt and face mask. People may register at here.

To learn more about the Rotary Stigma-Free initiative, please contact District Governor Ann Walko at edudoc98@aol.com or 908-410-7251. Click here to read more from the Roxbury Register.

NJ Human Services Extends COVID-19 Child Care Assistance Programs Through End of School Year

The state will be extending several COVID-19-related child care assistance programs for families and providers through the end of June 2021. As part of the public health emergency, the state launched the New Jersey School-Age Tuition Assistance Program to help families pay for care for their school-age child in need of child care as a result of COVID-19 remote learning schools schedules.

For families who have been approved for School-Age Tuition Assistance, payments for your child’s care will now continue through June 30, 2021. No new applications are being accepted.

If you need help paying for child care, you can apply for the state’s Child Care Subsidy Program. To give you a sense of whether you would be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy Program, the income maximum for a family of four is $52,400 annually. Use our calculator to see if you are likely to be eligible or visit our parent page to learn more about this program. If you need help finding child care, contact your local Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Agency. Families can apply online at www.ChildCareNJ.gov.
