Jefferson Preschoolers Celebrate Children's Literature Week with NO David Series
Patti Klein’s preschoolers at Jefferson School read some of their favorite stories from the NO David series by David Shannon. The series follows the mischievous misadventures of a young boy named David.
Mrs. Klein shared, “I think the children love these books so much because the main character David is always in trouble. The books are about when David gets in trouble, he always says…‘NO! It’s not my fault! I didn’t mean to! It was an accident!'”
Whatever the situation, David’s got a good excuse. And no matter what he’s done “wrong,” it’s never really his fault. The children seem to enjoy the fact that even though he does silly things like go to school without his clothes, or burp so loud he blows out candles, or spills just about everything he is always forgiven. He is a good kid who makes mistakes just like they do.
This virtual week we celebrated children’s literature week and the children, guided with the artist hands of Laura D´Agostino and the storytelling of Roberta Doran, created NO David Puppets which they continue to play with them at home!

Highlight from Parent/Teacher Conferences at Nixon School
Ashley Montano's first grade students led this year's parent/teacher conferences by sharing "three glows" and one "grow" from this school year. They used the following frames when writing their sentences and sharing with their families:
I like...
Something I learned so far is...
I'm proud of myself for...
I want to work on...
What a great way to see and hear from our students!

Roxbury over Sparta - Field hockey recap - Oct 31
Zoe Pickett provided a hat trick while Shannon Brady added a goal and two assists as Roxbury won, 5-0, at home over Sparta. Roxbury Football Loses to South Jersey Visitors
The Roxbury High School football team on Friday not only gave a South Jersey team a place to play, it also gave it a win. The Gaels lost 26-7 to the Clearview Regional High School Pioneers, a Gloucester County team that traveled more than 100 miles to participate in the contest. The unusual matchup took place because COVID-19 cases forced the cancelations of the regularly-scheduled Friday games for both Roxbury and Clearview.
The loss brought Roxbury's record to 0-5. The Gaels have one more chance to avoid a winless season when they take on Montville in an away game on Nov. 6. Click here to read more from TAPinto Roxbury.

Did you know...
Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving policies and regulations outlining its position and efforts.
To that end, all seven schools in Roxbury Township attained Bronze certification through Sustainable Jersey for Schools in August 2018 and now we are striving to renew that certification and attain the next level, Silver! In this section, you will find various green initiatives, events, and tips to live a healthier, greener life. Click here for more information regarding our sustainability initiative.

School Community Asset Map - You Can Help!
As part of our initiative to maintain Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification, we continuously need to update our Community Asset Map. This is a collective inventory of the positive and valued aspects of a community by identifying the places, institutions, programs, and people that contribute to making our communities great places to learn and live.
Community assets can include information on local artists, scientists, and other experts, parks, local historic buildings, and green businesses, but can also include resources like cultural activities and events, arts, cultural and service organizations, social service agencies, and community organizations that are part of the great community context.
We've come up with over 700 businesses, restaurants, educational institutions, medical facilities, transportation hubs, and community organizations since 2018, but we need your help up in updating this list as we know things are ever changing.
Please take a few minutes and jot down a few places and/or groups that you can think of to help round out our list. Click here for more information regarding the Roxbury Community Asset Map and how you can contribute.

Roxbury Environmental Commission warns of Spotted Lanternfly dangers
It's another tree ravaging gift from Asia, and local officials say it has been spotted in the township. It's the Spotted Lanternfly, and the township's Environmental Commission is advising residents to be wary.
"The spotted Lanternfly has been seen in some sections in Roxbury. The Roxbury Environmental Commission wants to make residents aware of its presence in the Township and directions on how to report," Environmental Commission Chair Jacqueline Vitiello said in an e-mail on Oct. 4.
"The Spotted Lanternfly lays its eggs in the fall, so now is a good time for residents to be aware and take steps to prevent its spread," she said. According to Wikipedia, the spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is a plant hopper that is indigenous to parts of northern China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, and has spread invasively to Japan, South Korea, and the United States. Although it has two pairs of wings, it jumps more than it flies. Its host plants include grapes, stone fruits, and Malus species, although its preferred host is Ailanthus altissima (Chinese sumac or tree of heaven).
According to Vitiello, if a resident spots a Spotted Lanternfly, they should take a picture with a GPS function on on the Smartphone or camera of any life stage, including egg masses. Those pictures should be submitted to SLF-plantindustry@ag.nj.gov. Specimens of any life stage can be turned in to the NJ Department of Agriculture’s lab for verification. Egg masses should be scrapped off trees and double bagged and thrown away. If a picture can't be taken, call the NJ Spotted Lanternfly Hotline at 1-833-223-2840 (BADBUG0). Click here for more detailed information with pictures and to learn how to set traps. Click here to read more about these bad bugs from the Roxbury Register.

National Wreaths Across America Day - Dec 19
The Ferro Monte Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in support of the Wreaths Across America at First Presbyterian, United Methodist, and Flanders-Hillside cemeteries in Succasunna are working hard to ensure that the 617 US Service Veterans buried at these cemeteries will indeed be honored again this year with the placement of fresh balsam wreaths as part of National Wreaths Across America Day 2020.
This year the ceremonies that are held across the country at more than 2,200 participating locations will be different as the national nonprofit makes every effort to meet CDC recommended safety guidelines while also adhering to state, local, and cemetery safety measures being implemented due to COVID-19.
At First Presbyterian, United Methodist and Flanders-Hillside cemeteries in Succasunna the following modifications have been made to maintain a safe and successful event.
- Wreath laying will be done by appointment only on Fri., Dec. 18 and Sat., Dec 19
- The Remembrance Ceremony will be virtual
- Details on appointment scheduling and the virtual ceremony will be announced shortly
National Wreaths Across America Day is a free, non-political event that is usually open to all people. However, this year each individual location will adhere to all local and state safety guidelines and rules set forth by the participating cemetery locations at which Wreaths Across America is a guest.
We encourage all those interested in participating in this year’s wreath placement to please register as a volunteer so that you can be kept up-to-date on the details for the day as they occur. You can register to volunteer at RoxburyWAA.org or email FerroMonteDAR@gmail.com. Click here to view more information on this in our Virtual Backpack.
