Mrs. Iuvone's 3rd Graders Rocked Their Halloween Parade!
Students at Kennedy Elementary School were able to participate in a safe and socially distant classroom parade to celebrate Halloween. The 3I Rock Stars and their teacher, Mrs. Iuvone video taped a parade, and sent it to their parents and families to enjoy. It was a great way to celebrate in a safe and secure way! The students had a great time and were excited and surprised they were able to show off their costumes to everyone at home!
Take a look at their parade videos!
Happy Halloween everyone!

Election Day 2020
Don't Forget to Vote!
Election Day
is Tuesday, November 3rd.
Have your voice be heard
and vote!
Governor Murphy’s Executive Order #177 (EO-177) has ordered the General Election to be conducted primarily by mail-in ballot. Voting machines WILL NOT BE USED during this election. Individuals whose disability prevents them from voting by a paper ballot will have access to ADA-conforming voting at the polls. "This means that only voters having a qualifying disability such as impaired vision, and/or conditions that affect a voters' ability to write and fill out a ballot, etc., will qualify to vote on the machine," said Ann Grossi, Morris County Clerk. "All other voters will not qualify.”
This means voters who decide to vote at the polls will need to fill out a Provisional Ballot, which are counted after all vote-by-mail ballots are counted, as they must be verified and checked against mail-in ballots received by the Board of Election. The other option is to personally deposit completed ballots at polling locations. The Township of Roxbury must comply with state mandates. Additional and updated information is available at https://morriscountyclerk.org/.
Roxbury will have only two polling locations on Election Day, the Roxbury Senior Center and Roxbury Town Hall and will be based on a voter's ward and district. Click here for the 2020 Paper Ballot Mailing Location by street.
Voters do not have to wait until Election Day to submit their ballots and officials are encouraging voters to vote early. Morris County has 16 ballot boxes located throughout the county with one situated outside Roxbury Town Hall. For a complete list of Morris County drop boxes, click here.
Voters who want to check the status of their returned ballots can do so here.

Did you know...
Since 2016, the Roxbury Township Public Schools has been striving to become more sustainable and green in its policies and practices. The Board of Education and administration made the decision to pursue district sustainability and green initiatives by creating and approving policies and regulations outlining its position and efforts.
To that end, all seven schools in Roxbury Township attained Bronze certification through Sustainable Jersey for Schools in August 2018 and now we are striving to renew that certification and attain the next level, Silver! In this section, you will find various green initiatives, events, and tips to live a healthier, greener life. Click here for more information regarding our sustainability initiative.
|
|
School Community Asset Map - You Can Help!
As part of our initiative to maintain Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification, we continuously need to update our Community Asset Map. This is a collective inventory of the positive and valued aspects of a community by identifying the places, institutions, programs, and people that contribute to making our communities great places to learn and live.
Community assets can include information on local artists, scientists, and other experts, parks, local historic buildings, and green businesses, but can also include resources like cultural activities and events, arts, cultural and service organizations, social service agencies, and community organizations that are part of the great community context.
We've come up with over 700 businesses, restaurants, educational institutions, medical facilities, transportation hubs, and community organizations since 2018, but we need your help up in updating this list as we know things are ever changing.
Please take a few minutes and jot down a few places and/or groups that you can think of to help round out our list. Click here for more information regarding the Roxbury Community Asset Map and how you can contribute.

Roxbury Environmental Commission warns of Spotted Lanternfly dangers
It's another tree ravaging gift from Asia, and local officials say it has been spotted in the township. It's the Spotted Lanternfly, and the township's Environmental Commission is advising residents to be wary.
"The spotted Lanternfly has been seen in some sections in Roxbury. The Roxbury Environmental Commission wants to make residents aware of its presence in the Township and directions on how to report," Environmental Commission Chair Jacqueline Vitiello said in an e-mail on Oct. 4.
"The Spotted Lanternfly lays its eggs in the fall, so now is a good time for residents to be aware and take steps to prevent its spread," she said. According to Wikipedia, the spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is a plant hopper that is indigenous to parts of northern China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, and has spread invasively to Japan, South Korea, and the United States. Although it has two pairs of wings, it jumps more than it flies. Its host plants include grapes, stone fruits, and Malus species, although its preferred host is Ailanthus altissima (Chinese sumac or tree of heaven).
According to Vitiello, if a resident spots a Spotted Lanternfly, they should take a picture with a GPS function on on the Smartphone or camera of any life stage, including egg masses. Those pictures should be submitted to SLF-plantindustry@ag.nj.gov. Specimens of any life stage can be turned in to the NJ Department of Agriculture’s lab for verification. Egg masses should be scrapped off trees and double bagged and thrown away. If a picture can't be taken, call the NJ Spotted Lanternfly Hotline at 1-833-223-2840 (BADBUG0). Click here for more detailed information with pictures and to learn how to set traps. Click here to read more about these bad bugs from the Roxbury Register.

National Wreaths Across America Day - Dec 19
The Ferro Monte Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in support of the Wreaths Across America at First Presbyterian, United Methodist, and Flanders-Hillside cemeteries in Succasunna are working hard to ensure that the 617 US Service Veterans buried at these cemeteries will indeed be honored again this year with the placement of fresh balsam wreaths as part of National Wreaths Across America Day 2020.
This year the ceremonies that are held across the country at more than 2,200 participating locations will be different as the national nonprofit makes every effort to meet CDC recommended safety guidelines while also adhering to state, local, and cemetery safety measures being implemented due to COVID-19.
At First Presbyterian, United Methodist and Flanders-Hillside cemeteries in Succasunna the following modifications have been made to maintain a safe and successful event.
- Wreath laying will be done by appointment only on Fri., Dec. 18 and Sat., Dec 19
- The Remembrance Ceremony will be virtual
- Details on appointment scheduling and the virtual ceremony will be announced shortly
National Wreaths Across America Day is a free, non-political event that is usually open to all people. However, this year each individual location will adhere to all local and state safety guidelines and rules set forth by the participating cemetery locations at which Wreaths Across America is a guest.
We encourage all those interested in participating in this year’s wreath placement to please register as a volunteer so that you can be kept up-to-date on the details for the day as they occur. You can register to volunteer at RoxburyWAA.org or email FerroMonteDAR@gmail.com. Click here to view more information on this in our Virtual Backpack.
