Principal’s Message

Dear Roy Cloud Families,

I’d like to take this opportunity to extend gratitude and recognition to our Office Manager, Judy Venezia. As you know, “Miss Judy” has announced her retirement and her last official day with us at Roy Cloud will be December 20. Though I have only known Judy for a short time, I recognize her as a person who is friendly, outgoing and eager to serve. Her gift of service has been in many capacities at Roy Cloud. She began working as a yard duty when her youngest son was in first grade. After a couple of years, she moved into the position of “Lunch Lady”. While serving as Lunch Lady, she would often fill in for the Office Manager allowing her a break for lunch. Finally, when the Office Manager retired, Judy took over as the Office Manager. She has been serving in this role for over 30 years and ‘trained’ more than six different principals, including me!

Miss Judy is tightly connected to the community. Not only does she live in the community, but both of her sons attended Roy Cloud. On Maze Days, I was surprised by the number of people who connected with Judy from many different generations, families and community events. There was laughter over recalling past experiences and shared times together.

Over the years, Miss Judy has collected many fond memories and funny stories to tell. She will be remembered for comforting crying students, applying band aids to scrapes, keeping copiers running and full of paper, placing work orders, supporting staff and parents through the modernization project, organizing, preparing and so much more! I’m sure there are many of you who have memories and times of laughter to share.

As Miss Judy prepares for new adventures and experiences in her life, she shares that in her time at Roy Cloud, she has especially enjoyed the kids, the families, the teachers and in general the energy and excitement that a school environment provides.

Please stop by next week to wish her well. The PTO is also putting together a scrap book of “Miss Judy Memories”. Please take a moment to write well wishes for Miss Judy, and perhaps include a picture, a favorite quote or fond memory. Students and family members are encouraged to participate. The PTO book will be in the office until December 20 th .

Congratulations and best wishes to you, Miss Judy Venezia!

8th Grade Quotes and Baby Photos
Hello parents of 8th grade students! Every year in the yearbook, we create a special page for our graduating class. For this commemorative page to happen, we need each student’s baby photo and a quote.

  • For the baby photo, we are looking for a photo of the student to be between the ages of newborn to four years old. (Gif or jpeg format only, please.)

  • For the quote, we are looking for the student’s favorite memory at Roy Cloud (or field trip). This quote should be 30 words or less.

  • Deadline: Wednesday, December 19th

Please make sure the quotes and photos are suitable for a K-8 school environment. Thank you for your help!

Once the student has decided what he/she want his/her quote to be and what he/she wants to use for their baby photo, please email them to:  [email protected]

Garden Corner
This week the kinders learned about what animals need to survive. We learned a little chant to go with it!  Food, Water, Shelter, and Space! A habitat is a magical place!  After discussing habitats of different animals, they contributed to our worm habitat in the garden: the worm bin. They shredded newspaper for their beds and gave them food and water.

The 1st graders this week became scientists and observed worms up close. So many discoveries were made and excellent questions asked. We learned together that worms are both boys and girls and help the earth stay healthy by making nutritious soil! Thank you worms!

The 3rd graders talked about animal and plant adaptations.  What skills and traits to plants/animals have that help them survive in their environment?  After lots of discussion and examples, the students put on their engineering hats and were given the task of designing a seed with adaptations for certain seed dispersal methods. Some students designed a flying seed with a small parachute while others imagined a delicious looking seed in hopes that an animal would munch it up.

Another friendly reminder that  Saturday, December 15th  is our garden work day to create our outdoor classroom space. Sign up using the link below!
The Book Fair Results Are In!
The Book Fair sales total was $15,706 excluding tax, which means we earned $8,638 (55%) for the library. This will be used to purchase new library books and Scholastic magazines for the classrooms.

We also raised $170 for the RWC Toy and Book Drive. 33 books were purchased and donated.

Thank you, everyone, for supporting the Book Fair!
Books being donated to the RWC Toy & Book Drive at local Fire Station 12.
