I am grateful to all of our families and staff who participated in the conversations, sharing opinions and exchanging ideas, for Roy Cloud’s Roadmap to Reopening.
On Monday, November 30th, our School Site Council unanimously approved Roy Cloud's plan for return to in-person instruction. This plan will be submitted to our superintendent before December 18th for review, then subsequently submitted to the San Mateo County Office of Education for approval. Once approved, I will share the plan with our entire community.
To be clear, Roy Cloud will not be opening at full capacity. The proposed plan includes:
- Opening of two kindergarten classrooms in the AM/PM hybrid model
- Opening of the special day program for grades 3-5
- Opening of small group pods of 10-12 students in grades 1-5
- Opening of a small group cohort for 6th grade
- Continuation of the resource pilot program for grades 6-8 which opened on November 2nd
At this time, the plan does not include bringing back the majority of students and teachers for hybrid in-person instruction. Grades 1-8, as well as one kindergarten class, will remain in distance learning.
A partial reopening of the school will begin on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021 for kindergarten, the SDC for grades 3-5, the resource specialist program for grades 6-8, and the 6th grade cohort. On Monday, January 25th, we will welcome the learning pods for grades 1-5.
Students participating in the pods and cohorts will continue to receive the same online distance learning instruction from their classroom teachers. However, instruction will be supervised by a Legarza coach in a classroom at Roy Cloud. Participation in the pods is by invitation only based on student academic and/or behavioral data, including English Learner status and other student needs, and is confirmed by teacher recommendation.
All students invited to participate in any of the above programs will be contacted and their participation confirmed within the next two weeks, prior to leaving for the December holiday break.
Our collective work to date is commendable. We still have many factors to put in place according to the plan to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, as well as the success of the reopening. I look forward to your continued support and collaboration through this process.
With gratitude,
Diane

|
In this extraordinary year, your students are still living their extraordinary lives. With your help, Roy Cloud's 2020-21 yearbook will include every one of those stories. Each K-8 student has a reserved spot for two pictures and a short description that can highlight their accomplishments in the classroom, in the community, or out in the world.

Honoring Inclusive Schools Week
|
|
We are pleased to announce Roy Cloud will be honoring the 19th Annual Inclusive Schools Week, December 7-11, joining classrooms, schools, and communities throughout the world. Inclusive Schools Week (ISW) highlights and celebrates the progress schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to all students, including those who are marginalized due to disability, gender, ethnicity, geography and language. It also provides an important opportunity to discuss what else needs to be done to ensure that schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children. ISW is sponsored by the Inclusive Schools Network at Stetson & Associates, Inc.
