The energy is picking up at Roy Cloud as we invited yet another group of students back on campus on Monday, increasing the number of students in our hubs as well as adding a new in-person class for students in our K-5 Resource Program. We are eager to fill our hubs to capacity and will be connecting once again with our teachers for further recommendations.
You may have also heard about opportunities for educators to sign up for vaccinations. Several of us have already signed up and received confirmation for our first vaccination as early as this week! This is all very exciting news and we look forward to continuing with the next round and then discussing with teachers the reality of bringing even more students back on campus.
Many of you have asked for an update on upcoming plans for a reopening at Roy Cloud. We have had some teachers who have indicated that they would like to return to teaching in person before the end of the school year. We are working to develop surveys and gather family information about their desires to return so we can better plan a schedule that meets the needs of our students. Not all teachers may be coming back at this time, so we need time to gather information and adjust our plans. We will be working closely with our staff over the next few weeks and will update you as soon as our plans develop.
Finally, the Roy Cloud graduating class of 2020 is making a donation to CityTrees in lieu of the graduation party they missed due to the pandemic. Please read more below about their dedication of new trees to Roy Cloud. Enjoy the photos and celebrate an incredible amount of cooperation, trust, and spirit that went into the project.
With kindness and hope for what is to come,
Diane

New Trees Dedicated by Roy Cloud Class of 2020
|
|
In lieu of a graduation celebration, last year's Roy Cloud graduates have opted to make a class gift by donating $2,000 to CityTrees. The donation enabled CityTrees to release 9 fine young coastal oaks from their Stanford inventory for planting in Roy Cloud's amphitheater area, as well as 15+ more trees to be planted at other schools. Their class gift has been multiplied and paid forward! It was a true team effort led by former Roy Cloud parent, Allison Benjamin, and supported by district personnel and CityTrees volunteers. While Roy Cloud parents and students wanted to plant the trees themselves, current COVID protocols didn't permit it.
Once grown, these native trees will provide shade and help lower the school's carbon footprint. Later this year, the last year's graduates hope to dedicate the trees, install a plaque, and party like it's 2019! Thank you to the Roy Cloud Class of 2020 and CityTrees!

NEWS FROM MS. KWA
STEAM Update: User-Oriented Obstacle Courses
|
|
Who thinks a jumping jacks competition is unrelated to design thinking and empathy? Students came up with fun ways to incorporate jumping jacks into a user-oriented obstacle course for themselves, their stuffed animals, and furry friends. They came up with great ideas for tasks catered to their users' abilities, including this dog obstacle course video and the fox obstacle course shown below!
