School Resumes Wednesday, January 9th
Principal’s Message

Dear Roy Cloud Families,

Welcome Back and Happy New Year, 2019!

New beginnings and fresh starts. I shared in August how much I love them!

Here we have another opportunity to come back refreshed and with a new perspective. Let’s start this year off strong, in good standing with one another and in partnership, focusing on our likenesses and common goals of creating a caring community for our kids.

Creating this in 2019 will depend on our hearts, our children’s hearts and what is held on the inside to be true. What is in your child’s heart about kindness and caring for others? What is in your heart? We acknowledge positive behaviors and kind hearts. We establish interventions and support, even consequences for cruel behavior. But laws and rules and guidelines can’t change what’s on the inside. To affect change, there must be a change on the inside that prompts us to follow the laws, and rules and guidelines.

We may try to change ourselves with outside influences. Through routines, restrictions, disciplines, we might try to change our actions. But, this does not work. Rules can’t change hearts. Something has to happen within us, to will to change on the outside.

The staff and I are committed to working with your children to foster kindness and caring, empathy and compassion from the heart. As we continue with our “Tool Kit” for Social and Emotional Learning and introduce conversations of kindness and respect, we ask that you partner with us through your own modeling and help reinforce what we are introducing at school with the goal of affecting change from the inside out.

Together we can accomplish the phenomenal!

RCSD Seeks Members to Serve on 7/11 Committee
RCSD seeks community members to serve on a committee to determine use of vacant school campuses. This includes Adelante, Fair Oaks, Hawes, and Orion school sites, as well as the District Office at 750 Bradford Street. California law requires that the District form a District Advisory Committee, also referred to as a 7/11 Committee, to advise the Board of Trustees in the use of the property no longer needed for school purposes. The Committee will have an initial organizing meeting in early March 2019, and will then meet about 1-2 times per month for about 3-6 months, or until the business of the committee is completed.
Our Vibrant Community
Roy Cloud students participated in Know Your Classmates Day this fall, where students engaged in activities around increasing acceptance and building strong community. This mural represents students' work getting to know one another on a deeper level.
