As we come to the close of the school year, I wanted to express my gratitude for your patience, understanding and collaboration as we navigated, together, these unprecedented months since March 2020. We have faced many challenges together and engaged in passionate, heartfelt, sometimes heated discussions.
Thank you to the members of our School Site Council who helped guide these discussions; thank you to our PTO for persevering to provide enrichment and academic support even in our online environment. Thank you to our teachers and staff who demonstrated creativity, versatility and resilience in their work as they constantly learned new ways to interest your students even from afar. I am grateful for the staff who returned to teach a combination of online and in person, as well as those who remained permanently virtual to support the needs of our families.
Admittedly, we enjoyed many options this year and gained a new perspective and freedom of how and where learning and work can take place. We celebrated many successes this year with our Kindness Campaign, our work with Character Strong, our Pilot Programs and the return to school in a safe environment. Jump for Cloud and the Jog-A-Thon connected our kids with a common goal, motivated them with fitness and even raised funds for next year’s programs.
As we look to next year, we are sending a fond farewell to teachers Oriana Davis-Merolla and Julie Kraus, both moving to other schools due to our low enrollment; our reading specialist, Vicki Lawlor, moving to be closer to her grandchildren; our Education Outside garden fellow, Yolanda Chien; and our counselor/TOSA, Sierra Daniels. I am grateful for their dedication, consistency and unparalleled commitment to our community.
Please check in with your teachers for schedule changes, device and textbook returns, yearbooks, and any special events that may be planned for the end of the year.
With gratitude, in partnership,
Diane

Jog-A-Thon Proves We're Roy Cloud Strong!
Our Roy Cloud Strong community went the "extra mile" to help us blast past our Jog-A-Thon fundraising goal! Thanks to your support, we raised $71,275 to help the PTO fund various school programs. Congratulations to all our Jog-A-Thon winners...we hope you enjoy your well-earned prizes! THANK YOU also to the committee of amazing parent volunteers who spent countless hours planning and executing this fun, week-long event for our students.

Double Your Jog-A-Thon Pledge with Company Matching
An easy way to double your pledge contribution is through employee giving programs. Jog-A-Thon pledges are considered tax-deductible donations and many corporations will match these donations to our organization. Please consider seeing if your company will match your generous donation through Double the Donation and make every dollar stretch farther for Roy Cloud.

Kids have gotten used to their step counters during Jog-A-Thon week and, given the amount of steps logged, we know that they are eager to get outside and keep moving. Encourage your kids to keep walking through the summer and be prepared to follow one of our safe routes to school in the new school year. Please sign up to join one of our walkpools and continue the environmentally-friendly trend of leaving the car at home. Happy summer and happy walking!

Save Student Work with Google Takeout
Google Takeout is a service Google offers to easily export your data. If you're leaving the district (congratulations to our 8th graders!) or would like to save student work from this year, you can use Google Takeout to download any work in your student's Google Drive, Classroom, and more.
To access Takeout, have your student log into their RCSD account and access the Google Takeout tools.

2021 Lunchtime Composting Volunteers Needed
Starting this fall, Roy Cloud will be composting food scrubs...but we need your help! Since reducing food waste requires a change in the way kids dispose of their lunch leftovers, we are looking for a few volunteers during the lunch hours to help teach students how to properly separate their food. Do you have some time during the day to occasionally help monitor our lunchtime sorting efforts? Please sign up to help our school become more sustainable!

Foreign Language Enrichment
Congratulations to all middle schoolers who participated in our Rosetta Stone Spanish Pilot enrichment program! Note that your accounts will remain active until the end of August and you can continue to practice over the summer. For those who missed out on the pilot, you can still join one of our Roy Cloud Duolingo classrooms for Spanish, Latin, Chinese, German or Klingon and practice during the summer! If desired, we can share contact information between Roy Cloud families learning the same language so you can follow each other and compete for the most crowns or XP earned.
