Jog-A-Thon T-Shirt Design Winner
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2019 Jog-a-thon and Color Run t-shirt design contest is 4th grader, Daniel Griffiths! Congratulations Daniel! You can see Daniel's design in the window of the library doors and it will be on all of the Jog-a-thon t-shirts. Pre-orders for t-shirts are available now through this weekend (ending 3/31).

The Jog-a-thon is one of the students’ favorite events of the year. Now that we have a t-shirt design, the students will next collect pledges based on the number of laps they can run on the blacktop in 20 minutes. They reach out to family, friends, and neighbors to support them and our school programs. All K-5 students should have received an email with a link to their personal fundraising page. If you did not receive an email on behalf of your student, please contact us at roycloudjogathon@gmail.com .

Middle school students have an extra event - the Color Run. With parent/guardian permission and a minimum $25 donation/pledges, their running path takes them to the field behind school where they will be doused with festive color powder! Stay tuned for more information.

It Was Magical
San Carlos Children's Theater and Roy Cloud put on a truly supercalifragilisticexpialidocious show! Mary Poppins JR. featured nearly 80 of our young actors and chorus in an unforgettable musical last weekend. Each actor put in more than 100 hours of rehearsal time. Thank you to all of the parents who donated time to costume design, hair, makeup, sets, props and so much more. Thank you to the tech crew, many of them former Roy Cloud actors! Special thank you to Jen Clark, our producer. Thank you to Margaret Marshall, Director, Daniel Giray, Choreographer, Lisa Bock, Vocal Director, and Jim Cole, Technical Director, who put in many, many hours of work with the cast and chorus since early January to bring this classic to the stage. Bravo!

Garden Corner
The kinders last week continued their unit on trees! We talked about all the reasons trees are so important to our earth like shade, oxygen, wood, paper, and being beautiful. The students wrote thank you cards to the trees so they will know how much we appreciate them.

The 2nd graders experimented with soil this week to investigate how well different soil types drain and hold water. We tested gravel, sand, compost, and clay soil. The students engaged in a discussion about what would happen if we planted a seed in each soil type. Would the seed have enough water? Too much water? Would the soil have enough nutrients? We ended the lesson talking about loamy soil and how the idea gardens oil would be a mix of the soil types we tested.

The 3rd graders are working on creating a garden planting calendar by using the information on various seed packets. We are creating a class master chart to discover what will be best to plant in March/April as a class.
Golden Sneaker Challenge - Final Days
We are almost at the end of our first Golden Sneaker Challenge!!! We hope we will be able to complete the tallies on Friday morning and announce the winner still before spring break. A trophy awaits the winning classroom - and of course tons of bragging rights. Stay strong - continue walking - get fit - and enjoy spring break!

Ideas might include the following - groups of kids just hanging out in school or outside of school, sports teams of Roy Cloud or groups of Roy Cloud students in other leagues, drama production photos, instrumental music photos, outdoor ed group photos, Yosemite group photos, field trip photos, birthday parties, etc.

Please forward your photos to  rcgrad2019@gmail.com  with the year/grade the photo is from and also the names of the students.
