I’m writing today to provide a recap of the discussion held at the School Site Council meeting on Monday afternoon regarding the Roadmap to Reopening at Roy Cloud. Here is a quick summary with more details further below:
-
Kindergarten: Two classes will return for hybrid in-person learning on January 19th while one class will remain in full distance learning
-
Grades 1-5: Will remain in full distance learning
-
Grades 6-8: Will remain in full distance learning
- On-campus learning pods are being explored for all grades
To clarify, all kindergarten teachers agreed to come back for in-person learning. However, based on our initial parent survey results and the fact that 1/3 of our parents requested to remain in distance learning, we have planned for one teacher to remain in distance learning.
Middle school will remain in distance learning due to the complexity and safety issues around mixing and movement of students. Middle school enrichment surveys went out to students this Wednesday, Nov. 18th. Please review the enrichment options with your child and have them complete the survey by Friday, November 20th.
After several in-depth teacher conversations, all teachers in grades 1-5 have chosen to remain in full distance learning. The reasons for this are varied, however the overarching theme was to keep the current program in place to maintain consistency for students and cause the least amount of disruption to instruction. In the event this situation changes, I will let you know.
Additionally, we are working to establish on-campus “pods” for grades 1-8. These pods would be supervised by teachers, tutors, or coaches. Students would still receive online instruction from their teachers, however students would be at school under the supervision of an adult. Participation in pods would be by invitation only and based on student need according to academic, behavioral, and attendance data.
I invite you to email me with any questions and also encourage you to come to the Principal’s Meetup this afternoon from 4:00 - 5:00 PM. Our community is a caring community and I am confident we will continue to collaborate using the tools and information we have, at the time, to make the best decisions we can for our children.
Thank you for your continued support and contributions to the planning process,
Diane

SEL PROGRAM UPDATE
School Website Refreshed "with Character"
|
|
We miss the days of being together on campus, in the classroom, and out on the playground! In response, we call on our perseverance, our character trait of the month, to "work through situations even when there are obstacles or challenges in the way." In this spirit, we are refreshing our school website to connect our digital community with our SEL program and feature student acts in response to what they are learning in the classroom.
|
|
|
The SEL program information can be found under Parents & Community > CharacterStrong - Families Corner and under Curriculum & Instruction > Character Strong. We will provide weekly opportunities for participation, from Character Dares, to social emotional learning (SEL), to encouraging a greater sense of connection and belonging. There is even a section for parents to help further understanding including information from our monthly "Parent Ed Nights" and access our school counselor and SEL character specialist for support.
