As I begin to write on Monday evening, the majority of you have completed your Mid-Year Surveys. Thank you! I appreciate your feedback and recognize how difficult it is to make such impactful decisions based on the amount of information you have. Kristy, Charlene, and I were glad to be able to speak with those of you who contacted the office and help you walk through various possible scenarios. We are always available for a conversation. Please reach out.
Many of you have heard from your teachers about their plans for returning to in-person instruction in a hybrid model. Other teachers may have expressed that they are now in the process of meeting with our HR department to discuss their requests to remain serving your children in the current Distance Learning model rather than take a leave of absence. While it's a time of difficult decisions, we want you to know that our school will do everything in our power to meet the preferences of our families and of our teachers so that we may move forward together, with a focus on safety and learning, through the remainder of the school year.
Moving Forward
By the time you read this message on Thursday, several things will have happened:
- Phone calls will have been made to all families who did not complete the survey in order to gather your responses
- I will have met with teachers to discuss return-to-school scenarios and scheduling
- An RCSD board meeting will have taken place on Wednesday evening providing more updates
- And we will be closer to knowing who will serve as our next President of the United States
These are the pieces that we will be putting together over the next month, ultimately forming a plan for our return on January 19th:
- Over the next few weeks I will continue to send updates on various models and schedules for our return
- Survey data and the plan proposals will be shared with our School Site Council on November 16th
- More discussion and revisions will follow with the goal of presenting a plan, specific to Roy Cloud, to our superintendent and school board before we leave for the December break
Please continue to share your ideas and ask questions, read the RCSD communications, attend RCSD board meetings, join the PTO meeting and parent discussion, sit in on the School Site Council meeting, and attend the next principal's meetup. It’s important that I hear from you in order for your ideas to be considered.
Perseverance: The ability to work through situations even when there are obstacles or challenges in the way. This is our character trait for the month and it is such a fitting word at this time in the school and calendar year, as well as in our country.
In partnership,
Diane
