“Throw Kindness around like confetti!” I have a small glass dish with this sentiment on it and it sounds so light and simple. Is it that simple? Well, not exactly. When we make something sound easy, we often don't allocate the necessary resources or energy to make it count. Kindness is hard work, an act of generosity that expects nothing in return. Just ask the students of Mike Coleman’s Homeroom. Here are some of their responses to the prompt “What will you do for others today?”:
… bring the PG&E workers outside a snack … help my mom with work around the house because she is always working and doesn't have time to clean up the house … help my parents with dinner … cook for my mom and siblings … help my little brother with his homework … help my grandma carry things …
With CharacterStrong, all roads lead to Deep Kindness. In the words of CharacterStrong’s co-founder, Houston Kraft: “Throw kindness around like it’s the most important and meaningful resource we have.”

In early November, student leaders in the middle school will launch the "Thirty Days of Kindness" campaign and the whole school community is invited to participate. Anything but easy, each act has potential purpose in energizing school climate to a new level.
Start thinking now, to what act of kindness will you commit?
With kindness,
Diane

Fall & Halloween Virtual Parade
|
|
Whether or not your family celebrates Halloween, we want to see what students have been up to this fall! Ms. Jackson has created the Roy Cloud Fall Flipgrid inviting students to share a photo or 15-second video with the Roy Cloud community! Some ideas of photos/videos for students to share include:
- Their carved pumpkin
- Them participating in a favorite fall activity
- Your home décor for fall or Halloween
- Them in their Halloween costume
- A baked item made to enjoy the season
|
|
We have already provided teachers with access to the Flipgrid to share with their classrooms. To submit a photo/video, students will need to log in with their RCSD account. All submissions must be made by Monday, November 2nd.

Students can have some fun in their class meetings and show their school spirit by wearing Roy Cloud colors (blue and yellow) or Roy Cloud spirit wear! Once per month, we'll also have a special theme that may even be voted on by students. Be sure to check the Thunderbolt calendar each week for upcoming spirit day themes!
