It's already the month of October! We have worked through so many challenges together and adapted in so many areas. Thank you for your persistence, resilience and perseverance!
Our K-5 character trait for the month is RESPECT.
|
|
Please familiarize yourself with our work this month by reading our CharacterStrong parent letters for grades K-2 (English / Spanish) and 3-5 ( English / Spanish).
Middle school teachers are finding the CharacterStrong curriculum straightforward and effective. Unlike elementary school, the curriculum weaves in a different character trait each week focusing on actionable skills and strategies. So far, students have created “to be lists” and the obstacles to realizing them, learned about emotions in themselves and others and strategies to manage them, recognized “snap judgements” and their consequences, while continuing to develop supportive relationships. For the month of October, from kindness, to honesty to forgiveness, students will continue to build their toolbox of skills to manage difficult situations and their emotions, develop the support needed for making tough choices, understand the value of practicing gratitude, and how to support others facing a hard situation.
Respectfully,
Diane

Thank you to our parents and staff members who participated in our first virtual parent education night for Social Emotional Learning (SEL) last week. We had a great turnout! If you were unable to attend or would like to look back on resources that were shared, the presentation recording and shared slides are now available.
Also, please see this flyer on our new Student Social Hours hosted by Ms. Daniels, our school counselor. This new program is open to all students and is meant to be a time for students to come and socialize with their friends in a safe, supervised space. Please reach out to Ms. Daniels, our school counselor, with any questions.

Our PTO Loves to Come Through for Our Teachers!
|
|
In response to this unique school year, the PTO has striven to remain nimble to meet a variety of emergent needs. One area we've focused on making an impact is allocating more budget toward teacher technology supplies and equipment to better support distance learning. We are proud to have honored all teacher tech requests thus far! Here is a picture of Mrs. Kiefer, 4th grade teacher, enjoying her new classroom setup including a monitor and sit/stand desk provided by the PTO:

But the PTO Still Needs Your Help!
During these unprecedented times, the PTO needs you. We are trailing behind last year’s donations and may not meet our ambitious goal of $250,000. Now more than ever it’s important to ensure our teachers and students have what they need. Help support enrichment programs, counseling services, teacher resources like equipment and trainings, and so much more by donating to the PTO. If you haven’t made your gift yet, donate today!
As of October 7th, 18% of Roy Cloud families have donated more than $100,000. But we still need your help to reach our goal and to ensure we can continue to deliver the invaluable programs our teachers and students rely on. Imagine what we can achieve with 100% participation! Don’t wait, make your donation today!

Ms. Kwa has been having so much fun with our Wednesday STEAM classes, which consist of alternating making, EdTech integration, and coding skills, while weaving in sustainability lessons.
Students have been collecting tools and materials for their at-home Makery kit. At home, you could encourage students to find recyclables or any building material that was going to be thrown out, and add that to their Makery kit.
Need inspiration? Look to these students!
