Dear Roy Cloud Families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our first PTO Meeting on Tuesday evening. Thank you for showing up, for participating, and for sharing your ideas. The parent-teacher partnership has always been strong in our Roy Cloud community. This year, we are looking to partner creatively in the midst of our unique circumstances to maintain relationships and make them even stronger.
Please be sure to check out the article under School News, Roy Cloud SEL Curriculum. It shares additional ways we can strengthen our home-school partnership through Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS). This year, our grade level teams have recreated the PBIS matrix to fit the distance learning model.
|
|
The matrix expectations are taught and posted throughout the school and reviewed during class meetings for the distance learning environment. Read about the 5 steps to help parents set up a similar matrix framework to help family members know what is expected of them at home.
In closing, I leave you with inspiring poetry written by student Maya Datta, in Mr. T.’s fifth grade class, reflecting upon our CharacterStrong character trait for the month, Courage.
In partnership,
Diane

The Roy Cloud Library is "Open" for Business!
Students can now reserve library books for pickup
|
|
3rd-8th graders (and parents of K-2nd graders) can now check out books from the Roy Cloud library using the online Alexandria library system. Please review the Library Book Check Out Process, which teachers have also shared with students.
Our first pickup day is Wednesday, September 16th. Additional pickup days for the year will be October 7th, October 28th, November 11th, and December 9th.
|
|
A few key details:
- Because students in grades K-2 will not learn how to use the reservation system themselves, parents will need to assist them in placing books on hold
- Students can place up to three books on hold
- Students must place books on hold by the Monday before each pickup day
- Parents can pick up books placed on hold by their child(ren) only on designated Wednesdays from 9 am - 4 pm by driving through the Red Oak parking lot
- To assist our volunteers, please make sure your last name is displayed on a sheet of paper in your vehicle window during library book pickup

We Need Volunteers for Book Distribution!
Ms. Lera needs our help distributing library books! As parents drive through for pickup, our volunteers will deliver books to their cars. Volunteer slots are available in 2-hour increments. Please volunteer for a slot next Wednesday, September 16th!

ROY CLOUD SEL CURRICULUM
Five Steps to Promote PBIS at Home
|
|
Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) is a way for schools and organizations to operate and communicate based on positive reinforcement of expected behaviors.
|
|
The PBIS matrix is a tool used to display the common rules and expectations by which the students and staff have agreed to operate. Just as Roy Cloud strives to implement the PBIS matrix into school culture and daily classroom interactions, families are also invited to create and implement their own matrix at home using this easy guide:

TIPS FROM MS. KWA, STEAM TOSA
Tech Bytes: All About Clever
|
|
By now you've probably heard the name Clever so many times it feels like a new family member. Here are a few tips to get to know Clever a little better:
Logging In
All students can log in by typing in their school email address and password. Additionally, K-2 students have QR codes to scan. If your QR code isn't working, you can always fall back to the email address and password option, even on an iPad.
Automatic Sign On Apps
These automatically sign your students into apps, such as Dreambox, BrainPOP, Seesaw, and Learning A-Z. Students must log in through Clever; they do not have a separate username/password to log into the apps or websites.
Bookmarks
These apps, such as Epic, Khan Academy, and Freckle, do NOT log students in automatically. When students click these apps, they'll need to log in using a username/password, sign in with Google, a class code, or a combination of those things. An exception is Savvas enVision for math.
Teacher Pages
Your student's teacher may use their Clever Teacher Page for announcements and to list the apps their class uses most.
