Dear Roy Cloud Families,
I will begin with a few notes of gratitude. I am grateful for our new PTO board which led our first PTO meeting of the school year. We welcomed new board members and new families and approved a revised budget to include increased counseling services for students and support for teachers. I am grateful for our Roy Cloud staff who spend countless hours planning and preparing for instruction while adapting to new ways of attendance and engagement reporting, as well as online assessment protocols and procedures. Finally, a big bunch of gratitude goes to our supportive Roy Cloud community for taking the new learning in stride and working alongside us to support the needs of your children.

Direct Donations Help Us Plan for the Future
Did you know that the money raised in this year’s Direct Donations campaign will also fund programs for next year? Distance learning has posed many challenges to our community, but the PTO is working to ensure not only a successful virtual learning environment, but also a return to campus that includes all of the great programs, enrichment activities, and resources that make Roy Cloud a fantastic school. The PTO needs your help! Donate today and secure a successful return to campus!

Middle School Spanish Pilot Program
The PTO is trying to establish a middle school Spanish program at Roy Cloud again! We are sponsoring a pilot program for 30 6th-8th grade students who want to learn a foreign language and can commit to spending 2 hours per week practicing.
The program will use Rosetta Stone for Schools and we will do regular checkups to see how students are progressing. The goal is that participating students will be ready to take on Spanish II when they enter high school. Preference will be given to 8th graders.
The program begins on October 1st, so sign up today!

Garden Science is Back with Ms. Yolanda
Beginning next week, K-5 students will be back in the (virtual) garden classroom with Ms. Yolanda for live and video lessons! Be on the lookout for schedule updates from your teachers. Ms. Yolanda is joining us for her second year at Roy Cloud as a fellow with the Climate Corps Education Outside program which is funded by the PTO.

How Can Voting for Prop 15 Help Our Schools?
California Proposition 15 – otherwise known as the Tax on Commercial and Industrial Properties for Education and Local Government Funding Initiative – is on the California November 3rd ballot as an initiated constitutional amendment. The proposition would increase funding for K-12 public schools, community colleges, and local governments by requiring that commercial and industrial property be taxed based on current market value, instead of purchase price.
