Roy Hayes Tests Legends Car Last Week, Seeking Two More Bandolero Wins at Charlotte Summer Shootout This Week

CONCORD, N.C. - Twelve-year-old Roy Hayes, a Pennsylvania racer spending time this summer in Charlotte competing along with his brothers George and Stanley, took a small step into his future last week when he tested a U.S. Legends Car for Kyle Beattie Racing at Concord Motor Speedway.

Hayes, who has three wins in a Bandolero (also a U.S. Legends built car) under his belt at three different tracks including Charlotte Motor Speedway just a few weeks ago, enjoyed his first laps in the bigger, faster legends car and got high praise from his mentors at Kyle Beattie Racing for his performance.

"Roy did very well for his first time in the car," KBR Crew Chief Neal Cantor said afterward. "The first time is always a time just for them to get a feel for how much different the car is and learn how to run smoothly and gain confidence. We don't even worry about speed. That comes with time in the car and the proper training. Roy listened well and got better each time out. We were very happy with how today went."

Roy also started seventh and finished third with his Bandolero in race 8 of the 10 race Bojangles Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday night, competing in the Outlaw division.

Younger brothers George and Stanley are also competing at Charlotte, with Mike and Corey Gordon overseeing the Bandolero program for all three members of Hayes Motorsports.

Stanley had a strong fourth place finish in the Bandits division, while George was involved in a crash that relegated him to an 11th place finish.

Look for all three brothers in action today and tomorrow as the final week of the series includes a racing doubleheader.

Round 9 takes the green with qualifying just after 5pm this afternoon, following a noon to 4pm practice session.

On Wednesday, it's back to the dirt track at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, North Carolina where all three boys will be competing with their Kyle Beattie Racing-prepared mini outlaw cars.

Maintenance and at-track setup assistance for the Bandoleros and Allison Legacy program is provided by Mike and Corey Gordon from Team Gordon Racing. SKE / Kyle Beattie Racing provides maintenance and at-track setup assistance for the team's mini outlaws program.

Promotion and coaching is handled by veteran Performance Coach Tom Baker of Team Full Throttle in Charlotte, N.C.
