welcomeDear Gunners (Readers) -

WELCOME TO AIRBURST NO 24- 201
7,

A belated welcome to 2017 to all Airburst Readers. We have been slow getting of the mark with this edition of Airburst but here goes!  Two RAAHC activities were combined on Saturday 25 February when a Board Meeting was held at Jugiong to allow the Board members to get close up and personal with the Gun Team.

The Board watched horse washing, helped with harness cleaning and assisted in getting the gum and limber ready to receive the horses.

Once the horses were harnessed up Tim Ford and Vince Williams watched the Team depart for the lunch venue
On their way

After lunch the Team moved into a firing location and for the first time since WW1 the ANZAC Centennial Gun fired (albeit with blanks).

All in all it was a busy day. The Team Members appreciated the opportunity to meet the Board and those  gentlemen enjoyed a day in the country.

Please note the article on the Australian Artillery Association National Gunner Dinner. It is an event not to be missed.

Ubique,

The "Welcome"article has covered the firing of the gun at Jugiong but the Team also took part in the Bungendore Show on the 29 January 2017. It was the first time that the restored rounds from battlefields in Europe were displayed in the limber.

It was a stinking hot day but the Team set up a static display shown below. Note the limber on the right filled with 24 restored 18 Pounder rounds.

The horse team then did their stuff on two separate occasions.

The full Team then gathered for a photo opportunity as the day drew to a close.

L to R: Tony Jensen, Luke Dowell, Ian Ahearn, Kez Stewart, Paul Leseberg, Brian Armstrong, Harold Ganter and Wes Leseberg. Only to gunners and an inantryman! The rest of the Team are from all walks of life.  A big thank you from the RAAHC  and Gunners everywhere.

We hope to take the Team to Adelaide for ANZAC Day this year and then to France in November to commemorate the Battle of Passchendaele.

Did You Know:   In the Australian Army the Artillery is not accorded the privilege of Right of the Line; the Australian Corps that has this honour is the Corps of Staff Cadets, followed by the Royal Australian Armoured Corps and then the Gunners. Within the Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery regiments take precedence according to numerical order, however, the exception to this rule is A Field Battery, which, if listed on the Order of Battle as an independent unit, has precedence over all other Artillery units
