Welcome to the Carolyn Harris Royal Historian Summer 2023 Newsletter

In recent weeks, I have delivered royal history lecture series aboard the Regent Seven Seas Navigator and Regent Seven Seas Mariner cruise ships.

At home, my recent projects included a TED-Ed educational video about Marie Antoinette, a documentary about royalty in Canada during the Second World War and a series of media interviews and events about the coronation of King Charles III.

With the recent publication of Norman to Early Plantagenet Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty, all four volumes of the English Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty series, which I co-edited with Aidan Norrie, J.L. Laynesmith, Danna R. Messer and Elena Woodacre, are now available from Palgrave Macmillan.

New TED-Ed Video: Why Is Marie Antoinette So Controversial?

I developed a lesson for TED-Ed's "History on Trial" series about the reputation of Queen Marie Antoinette of France, from her marriage to the future King Louis XVI in 1770 to her trial before the Revolutionary Tribunal in 1793. The video is based on the research for my 2015 book, Queenship and Revolution in Early Modern Europe: Henrietta Maria and Marie Antoinette.
