Community Connections
Approximately 150 seniors enjoyed the annual Senior Holiday Dinner at the Watertown Community Center on Tuesday. The event is a wonderful example of community partnerships including support from the Watertown Commission on Aging, the City of Watertown and Watertown-Mayer Community Education.

Special thanks to the servers who included WM staff and FFA students, and to the WMHS Choir and Band members who provided entertainment before dinner.
Elementary Artists
Next time you visit the elementary school be sure to admire the art galleries hanging in the halls. Students have been exploring perspective, proportions and creativity by studying the work of famous artists with WMES art teacher, Ms. DeMars.
Learning Through Service
WM students, staff and families are participating in a variety of service projects to help those in need this holiday season:

  • WMES and WMMS students collected more than 3000 pounds of food and $1,172 for the Friends for Life Food Shelf in Watertown.
  • WMHS students are participating in Adopt-A-Child, Toys for Tots and are collecting items to send in care packages to our military troops.
  • Students in grades 1 - 5 are supporting Toys for Tots, Project Linus, Adopt-a-Family, Green Book sale, JDRF and Books for Africa.
  • Students in our Possibilities program collected and sorted items for Make a Difference Day, which creates care packages for community members who serve in the military.
  • Students in our 18+ Transition program served as bell ringers for the Salvation Army.

THANK YOU everyone for your donations of time, treasure and talent! These service projects help people in need, keep our schools connected to the community and provide meaningful learning opportunities for our students. #RoyalsWhoCare

Connecting with Veterans
Thank you to our local veterans who shared their stories with WMHS students on Veterans Day. This meaningful learning experience was an excellent example of our mission to help students grow through connections and opportunities.
Middle School Pipeline Challenge
Middle school students in Ms. Neaton's algebra class recently worked on a "Pipeline Challenge."

The class worked in small groups to engineer, design and build a pipeline across the classroom to transport a golf ball and ping pong ball.

They also had to manage a $1 million expense budget. The materials needed to build the pipeline (yardsticks, tape, paper, cardboard, etc.) were very expensive!
Unified Sports
WM will be expanding opportunities to participate in unified sports this year. Unified sports partner people with and without intellectual disabilities competing together on the same team.

If you're interested in being an athlete or a partner for indoor soccer or basketball, please contact Shawn Perez (

Good luck to our WM unified bowling team! They will compete at the AMF Southtown Lanes on Friday at 10am. #GoWMRoyals
Exploring Archery
WM Community Education recently hosted an indoor archery series at WMPS with instructors from Carver County Parks.

Participants ages 8-12 had the opportunity to unlock their inner Robin Hood during this exciting class. They learned range safety and practiced stance, aim and release techniques through fun games and challenges.

The next series begins in March. Watch your mailbox or the Community Education website for the winter catalog. Then sign up and join in the fun!

Annual Financial Report
The WM School Board reviewed the annual school district audit during its November meeting. One key indicator of school district financial health is measured by financial reserves as a percentage of expenditures on programs supporting students and school district operations. The current state of the district in this regard is presented in the following chart:
The district continues to work as efficiently as possible to deliver on its mission in support of students, aligned with strategic directions that include long term fiscal sustainability. However, as the following charts indicate, the district continues to operate with less revenue than like-size districts, as well as that of the average for all districts in the State of Minnesota.
Revenue per Student (ADM)
Expenditures per Student (ADM)
As the district’s administration and school board plan for the future, careful consideration will be given to all options to continue to make wise use of taxpayer dollars in support of our students. Want to know more? Watch the November school board meeting, review the audit presentation or contact Superintendent Wilke at 952-955-0480 .
Don't Forget the Panorama Survey!
Panorama survey responses are due by December 11. In the event you missed the first email containing the survey, please check your inbox for a follow-up email from Panorama.
