Edith Eisner named Life Trustee and Honorary Alumna

For many, many years, Roycemore's students, alumni, teachers, parents, trustees, and administrators have each enjoyed and appreciated Mrs. Eisner's intelligence, wit, wisdom, love, and affection. She leads by example and embodies the soul of this great institution.

2018 Class Speaker— Benjamin Hurley

I came to Roycemore freshman year, and the thing that struck me most when I first got here was lunch. Within a couple days of the year we developed this habit where our entire grade would sit together. We’d push some tables together and all eat together like a massive family in the corner of the cafeteria. It was honestly kind of weird, but it was nice.

Three Cheers!

On Thursday June 8th a number of middle and upper school students were recognized for their achievements.

1528834282
Elinor Rice Fuchs Teacher of the Year · Kymberly Showers

There is no question that Kymberly Showers pushes our students to dig deeper as they work to master difficult skills and concepts. She has high expectations and holds them accountable, but as hard of a teacher as she is, the students know that no matter how much she expects of them, she will work alongside them to help them to accomplish more than they thought they could.

Christopher Deutsch ‘93 · Named Distinguished Alumnus

Roycemore students and alumni are thinkers. They are doers. They celebrate the uniqueness of each individual and recognize the power in what each individual has to offer to our community. In this way, we have a school that is somewhat- counter-cultural. It is a place where students can be themselves and pursue their unique interests- blazing new trails for those that follow them. Christopher Deutsch, class of 1993, is a trailblazer! Spend any time with him and you will soon learn that he is a quintessential entrepreneur. Chris’s energy, drive, determination, and passion for what he does is infectious! He is an incredible ambassador for Roycemore and a perfect representative for how a Roycemore alum can take what they have gained at our school to blaze new trails in business and in life! We are pleased to recognize Roycemore Distinguished Alumnus of 2018, Christopher Deutsch. Chris served as the graduation speaker on June 8th. A Special Musical Tribute
The combined Middle and Upper School Chorus performed a very special song at the 2018 Commencement, created especially for Roycemore as a tribute to the Class of 2018 by Roycemore Music Teacher, Julie Herrick. We expect this to become a song that will be embraced by Griffins far and wide both now and for many years to come.

Always In My Heart- Words and music written by Julie Herrick
Verse 1
Walking down the road today
I can’t see just where the path will go, oh no
I don’t know how I will see
Just who I am meant to be
Right now, and it’s now

Pre-Chorus
I have learned so much, so it’s hard to say goodbye
But I know somehow that I will have to try

Chorus
This is my home, this is my place
This is where I’ll always show my face
It’s a place of love and friendship in my eyes
And this is my life, this really is me
And yet I know I’m part of a family
Still I want to see just where my life will go
But Roycemore’s always in my heart, this I will know

Verse 2
Yearbook, choir, tumbling
Drama, K-Pop, performing, right here, it's here
Passions are found through JST
And I’m appreciated for being me
In this community

Pre-Chorus 2
And I care so much, so it’s hard to say goodbye
But I know right now that I will have to try

Chorus
This is my home, this is my place
This is where I’ll always show my face
It’s a place of love and friendship in my eyes
And this is my life, this really is me
And yet I know I’m part of a family
Still I want to see just where my life will go
But Roycemore’s always in my heart, this I will know

Bridge
One more time I’ll clap my hands
One more time stand up and dance
And share my love with everyone around
One more time I’ll find my voice
Raise it high above the noise
Sing loud and proud
With friends right now
And celebrate all that I’ve done

Chorus
This is my home, this is my place
This is where I’ll always show my face
It’s a place of love and friendship in my eyes
And this is my life, this really is me
And yet I know I’m part of a family
Still I want to see just where my life will go
But Roycemore’s always in my heart, this I will know

Coda (seniors only)
And we just can’t wait to see
Cause’ now we know who we want to be
We know that life will have us try
But we will never say goodbye

Student Exchange Opportunity · Guatemala Faces & Culture Program
We are happy to share with you that this year we will welcome Guatemalan students to campus through the Faces and Our Cultures Program. These young participants spend nearly two months living with a host family while attending classes and participating in extracurricular activities at school. The program has led to wonderful friendships and provides our students and our Guatemalan guests with valuable cultural experiences.
In order to participate in the Faces Program, Guatemalan students apply to be Cultural Ambassadors of their country and are carefully selected by the Faces & Our Cultures Team. They go through a preparation process during the year and also prepare cultural projects to share with their host family and school.
This fall, our young cultural ambassadors will arrive October 16th, stay with their host families and join our school community for the following 7.5 weeks, and depart December 9th. If you are interested in hosting a student, and participate in this life enriching experience, you can contact:
Adrianne Finley Odell at afinleyodell@roycemoreschool.org or
Gaby Padilla, State Coordinator, at gaby.padilla@facesandcultures.com.

US host students also have the opportunity to participate in a Cultural Exchange Experience in Guatemala during the summer (optional program). This experience can be customized from 2 up to 4 weeks.
