Please join us in another Griffin Greats series to hear from Class of 1995 Roycemore Alumna Shamar White! Shamar is a Television Writer, Screenwriter, and Playwright hailing from Chicago, Illinois. She was a Staff Writer for the CW Network's drama series, VALOR. Shamar earned her MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she received the 2016 Outstanding Writing for Half- Hour Television Award. Her Ten-Minute Play DETAINED received its world premiere at the Obie award-winning The Fire this Time Festival in New York City. Shamar is a decorated Army Combat Veteran, having served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Shamar received The Will and Jada Pinkett Smith Family Foundation Screenwriting Award at the 2017 Fusion Film Festival for her feature screenplay SUMMER K.A.O.S. Two of her plays have been Semi-Finalist for the Eugene O’Neil National Playwright’s Conference. Most recently Shamar was a Finalist for Adam Driver's Arts in the Armed Forces, 2020 Bridge Award for her full-length play, BROOKLYN PATCHWORK.
