School Wellness Screener App
We are very excited to share the news that we will be utilizing the School Wellness Screener (SWS) app this school year to confirm each student, teacher, staff member, and visitor completes a daily health attestation check before coming on campus. We started using this app during our summer camp programming and found it a very useful step in our efforts to keep our community healthy. Best of all, the app was developed by our very own Roycemore Senior, Ephraim Zimmerman, who now has 20+ schools across the country contracted to use the SWS app. Well done Ephraim!

To download and begin using the SWS app, please follow these steps:
(1) download the app here. The link will automatically direct you to the correct app store for your operating system (iOS or Android)
(2) enter our school-ID as: roycemoreschool-1812
(3) complete the login

All Upper School students should sign up for themselves and not get signed up through their parents.

NOTE: If you're a parent or faculty member with children, please add all of your children to your account before completing registration.

Athletics Update
The Roycemore Athletic Director sent out a Letter on August 10th updating the school community regarding our plan for athletics this school year. The very difficult decision was made to cancel our involvement in athletic competitions for the Fall 2020 season. We are looking to offer modified fall recreational opportunities in volleyball, cross country, and soccer. In addition to our traditional programs, we are looking to explore other recreational sports to engage our student athletes during this time with fun new opportunities that will keep kids active. A survey has gone out to Middle School and Upper School families to gauge interest in new options for our after school sports and wellness program.

The status of our Winter and Spring seasons will be re-evaluated closer to the start of those seasons.
Professional Development Update
Roycemore teachers have been busy this summer! In addition to taking some much-needed time to rest and rejuvenate, each faculty member was asked to complete at least two professional development (PD) modules to prepare for this unusual school year.

Some highlights of our faculty summer PD include:
  • All faculty took a deeper dive into distance learning, so they are prepared to support off-campus learners, as well as all students during any periods of fully remote learning.
  • All faculty completed modules helping them prepare for changes to our schedules, as well as to increase our project-based-learning and collaboration initiatives.
  • Faculty are having continual conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion in our curriculum. This work will continue throughout this school year and beyond.
  • Many faculty members have achieved Google Certified Educator: Level 1 status this summer, and several more are pursuing Level 2 status. This will enhance our use of Google for Education tools in the classroom, and will improve our remote learning experiences.
Introducing More New Faculty!
We are excited to share that we have more talented faculty set to join our team for the 2020-2021 school year. Please join us in welcoming them to Roycemore. Their bio's will be posted on our website soon.

Three Cheers
Director of Curriculum and Innovation, Elizabeth Shutters, received the Lemelson-MIT Excite Award, and participated in three days of PD related to that. The award is given to about 50 US educators who teach invention education. Lemelson-MIT is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology program celebrating inventors and inspiring young people to pursue invention. The information, curriculum, and resources from this PD will be help us enhance many of our programs, such as our Lower School Theme Week, Middle School P3, and Upper School JST. Congratulations to Mrs. Shutters!
