From the Head of School

Don't Wait

"Don't wait. If you think of something important, say it. If you want something, go for it. Don't wait until tomorrow. It's a waste. Never use the future to escape the present. Ever."

These wise words of a young lady named Hannah Weiss were posted on her Facebook page this past week by her friend in tribute to her. Hannah was 19 years old. She and her family died in a tragic plane crash in Costa Rica on New Year's Eve. Such wise advice for all of us as we begin a new year.

Hannah and my daughter began seventh grade together as new students at my former school in St. Petersburg, Florida, and they both graduated from that high school a year and a half ago. She and her family left an indelible impact on their friends, family and their community. In reading through the countless tributes to Hannah and her family, I was inspired by her quote and thought that her wisdom should be shared far and wide.

As a community that has come together in service to young people, everyone who is reading this right now has that in common. We have young people in our lives that we love dearly and I invite you to hold them tight and love them even more. Encourage them to live life to the fullest and model that for them as well.

As we look to the year ahead of us, think about the great opportunity it represents for each of us to start fresh. Don't wait until tomorrow . . . Don't wait.

With love and best wishes for us all in 2018,

Adrianne Finley Odell
Head of School

New "Raptor" visitor management system introduced

Roycemore has launched a new security system for all visitors to our campus that is being implemented as we return for second semester. Visitors will be asked to show an official photo ID at the reception that will be scanned and checked against national databases to ensure that there are no child safety concerns related to the individuals being on our campus.

Going forward we will also ask all volunteers who will be spending individualized time with students to go through the same procedure. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Vicky Pickett, Director of Finance and Operations, or Adrianne Finley Odell, Head of School.
