Dawn of the New Rudder Flutter

Welcome to the new Rudder Flutter!

At the Idaho Transportation Department, and especially within the Division of Aeronautics, we pride ourselves on innovation. We look for creative ways to be more efficient and cost effective. The Rudder Flutter is a great example. The previously printed edition was labor intensive, at times taking several months to develop and publish. Often the information for the aviation community was no longer relevant due to this extended timeline. Staff members developed a new method to produce and distribute helpful information while saving cost. Introducing the new electronic Rudder Flutter! Like any new process, we expect some challenges as we develop our program and welcome your input to make it better.

Our vision is to enhance your quality of life through transportation—this is a step toward that vision.

State Operated Airports

Number 32 - Hoodoo (4D2)

Thanks to all our partners for the incredible amount of work that went into cleaning up Hoodoo Meadows.

Read more about our highest airstrip.

Hoodoo Meadows is a challenging airstrip, at over 8200 feet MSL. We are still working on runway markings and there are slash piles, stakes and stumps on the edges. Plan for no more than 1900 ft x 60 ft, and it narrows on the high end to 40 ft. The official 5010 inspection will be completed when Hoodoo thaws out. Please find an instructor or experienced backcountry pilot to introduce you to this strip.

Cameras and Weather

We are happy to announce a new product on our websight under "Pilot Tools". We are sharing our list of Idaho Cameras, websites and weather stations that we using while flying around the state. Some links may require membership. Several are Dyacon Weather stations. Have a look.
