In 1974 we moved from Camp Maacama to the Mendocino Woodlands for our annual summer Sufi Camp and never left. We met every year for 46 years until the pandemic put the camp on pause. We often call it the Mother Camp for our Ruhaniat family because it was our first and only annual camp. Out of it blossomed the Northwest Sufi Camp and the Ozark Sufi Camp.
Wavy Gray was one of the early children's camp directors and out of that grew Camp Winnarainbow. Mendocino Sufi Camp birthed the yearly All-Night Teen Vigil and the Mendocino Sufi Youth Camp.
A litany of the worlds best musicians came and shared their gifts with us, from Pandit Pran Nath and Hamza El Din, to Terry Riley and Glen Velez and our own Allaudin Mathieu and Deborah Thomson and so many more.
Joe and Guin Miller were regulars every year. The great theologian and teacher Mathew Fox joined us and started our annual Mendocino Sufi Camp Cosmic Rave! Postneshin Jelaluddin Loras and Lama Dudjom Dorje were regular attendees.
Our guests will share their heart experiences of Mendo Sufi Camp and we will have slideshows with pictures from the different periods. So much history to share!
