SMARTER NOT HARDER

Tips, Tricks, & Hacks for Improving Operations

Team Agreements

Foster a shared understanding of how the team will work together, promoting collaboration and reducing misunderstandings.

Rules of Flow

Bottlenecks ARE Special

Bottleneck resources are special in dependent workflows.

This can be a very awkward conversation to have with a team. No one wants to think that one person or role is more important than the rest. But the laws of operations do not care about human feelings.

The bottleneck resources should be protected and treated differently in the organization. Their activities take priority over other activities in the organization.

Team Agreements should be made to develop work standards, priorities, as well as behaviors around bottlenecks aimed at maximizing the productivity of the bottleneck resource. Generally, these agreements are created collaboratively, with all team members participating in the discussion and development

These agreements aim to create a clear and shared understanding of how the team will work together, fostering a productive and effective environment.

Let’s relentlessly pursue flow by reducing surprise, dismay, exhaustion, and frustration for bottlenecks. Remember, Bottlenecks ARE Special!

“An hour lost at a bottleneck is an hour lost by the whole system. An hour gained at a non-bottleneck is just a mirage.” (quote by Eli Goldratt)
