"Who? Not who, but the one
needs to be saved,
the one who hurts,
the one who screams,
the one who cries,
the one who falls,
the one who hides,
even the one who seems to be ok.
Not who,
but the one in front of you,
that is who
to be saved,"
-Jose A. Moran

Each year, the Recovery Run honors someone who embodies strength in recovery. This year’s Recovery Run Honoree is Danny Dedmon, recognized for his remarkable transformation and service to the community.
| | |
For 27 years, Danny cycled in and out of prison, struggling with substance use and loss. After the deaths of his mother and grandfather, he had no support system, until Sun Street Centers came into the picture. Upon his early release eight years ago, Danny enrolled in the Men’s Residential Program in Salinas, ready to change.
What changed everything? Trust. “For a long time, no one trusted me... being trusted was a big thing for me. It still is.”
Today, Danny is the Program Manager at the Sun Street Centers' Sobering Center, supports the unhoused, and volunteers with Friends of the Salinas Public Library. His journey reflects the heart of recovery: rebuilding trust, finding purpose, and giving back.
Let's celebrate recovery, community, and hope!

Hope in Action:
Honoring Recovery Month Together
| | Sun Street Centers Team at City of Marina City Hall | | |
Recovery Month is here, and we're proud to join the national movement to promote and support evidence-based treatment, recovery practices, and the vibrant, resilient recovery community. We also honor the dedication of service providers and communities who make recovery possible every day.
As part of this nationwide campaign, we're celebrating alongside cities across the tri-county region that are formally recognizing National Recovery Month and honoring Sun Street Centers' unwavering commitment to individuals and families on their recovery journey.
The cities of Marina, Seaside, Monterey, Soledad, and Salinas have already issued proclamations declaring September as National Recovery Month! We invite you to join us next in Hollister or San Luis Obispo as we continue spreading awareness, support, and hope.

In addition to these proclamations, we proudly took part in a county-wide Day of Hope, a unified effort to celebrate recovery and inspire our communities. This special day featured three simultaneous events held across the county, in collaboration with Community Human Services and Valley Health Associates. Together, we spread messages of hope through the 'Tree of Hope' activity, while celebrating side by side with clients, families, and community members. It was a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and thriving in every corner of our region.
Sun Street Centers hosted a Day of Hope celebration in King City, CA, featuring a series of workshops such as "Recovery and Art" and "Stories of Recovery." These sessions gave participants the opportunity to hear personal recovery stories and explore how art can serve as a therapeutic outlet during times of loneliness or emotional struggle. Special thanks to Sol Treasures for hosting the art workshop, and heartfelt appreciation to everyone who participated in the informational sessions, as well as to those who joined the two additional events held in other parts of the county.

One Year, Many Lives Changed:
Hope Housing's Impact Story

“Being part of this community has really helped. I made a lot of new friends. It’s cool because we don’t have the exact same story but basically everyone’s story here is the same idea… struggling with an addiction and now trying to overcome that.”

Hope Housing is proud to celebrate its one-year anniversary! In partnership with Monterey County Behavioral Health, Sun Street Centers, Interim Inc., the Housing Resource Center, and the Housing Authority of Monterey County, Hope Housing provides safe, supportive, and temporary housing for individuals and families affected by Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
As a Bridge Housing program, it offers residents up to 18 months of housing while they stabilize, engage in treatment, and work toward securing permanent housing. Through a trauma-informed and personalized approach, Hope Housing fosters recovery, community, and lasting success. Andrea and Brad's story is one example of the life-changing support Hope Housing offers.
| |
Just a year ago, Andrea and Brad were unhoused on the streets of Salinas. Brad’s congestive heart failure worsened due to drug use, and he was hospitalized with life-threatening complications. During this time, Andrea found out she was pregnant, a turning point that inspired them both to get sober.
On November 10th, they committed to recovery. After Brad’s hospital stay, he was referred to Dr. Casey Grover, who connected him with Hope Housing. The couple moved in to Hope Housing in February 2025 and have been moving forward with their goals ever since.
| “Since we decided to get clean... a lot of good things happen and they continue to happen every day." | | Today, their baby is healthy, they’re celebrating almost one year of sobriety, and Brad has reconnected with his family. Hope Housing has provided a safe space for them to heal, grow, and work toward a brighter future. | | | | Recovery • Counseling • Education • Prevention | Since 1968, Sun Street Centers has been providing the most comprehensive and effective services for education, prevention and recovery of alcohol addiction and drug abuse. Relying on a proven social model developed by our founders, Martin and Nancy Dodd, as well as the compassion and experience of our staff, we welcome all individuals and families to hope, heal, share and thrive with a drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle. | | | | |
