Running Wild | January 2020
Run Wild Missoula Executive Director:
I Hereby Resolve To………

The turn of the calendar from 2019 to 2020 brings with it the opportunity for reflection on the past year; the start of a new decade (can you say Roaring 20’s??); and, the chance to set a new set of goals for the coming year. If you’re struggling to set some resolutions and goals for 2020, might I suggest some ideas?

Volunteer at a Run Wild Missoula race or club activity. Volunteers are critical to the success of our races and activities. With over 1,600 members in the club, if everyone volunteers for just one race a year, we’d have more than enough helping hands to cover all of our events.

If you've primarily been a road runner, try one of our trail classes or trail races. Trail runners - give one of our road races a try. Mixing up terrain, surfaces and events are a good way to keep your own training and racing fresh and fun.

In a similar vein, if you've trended towards marathons and ultras, think about dropping down to a 5K or 10K. If you've found yourself in a 5K rut, think about stepping it up and giving a half marathon a try. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself by getting out of your comfort zone and trying something new.

Want to run or walk more miles in 2020? Make the commitment to become part of our 1,200 mile or 2,000 mile clubs.

Want an incentive to get out the door throughout the year? Sign up to run at least 7 RWM races in 2020 to become a " Racemaker" (and get a fun prize at the end of the year). An upcoming race is a good way to keep yourself accountable and get in your training.

Become a fan of the sport. With 2020 being an Olympic year, there will be ample opportunities to watch the top levels of the sport in track & field and marathons. Locally, we have college & high school track and cross country, road racing and, trail racing. If you're not racing or volunteering, come on out and watch one of these local events.

Most of all, I challenge you to resolve to stay committed to a fit, active and healthy lifestyle. Use your Run Wild Missoula membership to find the resources you need to incorporate running and/or walking into your fitness program.

While you’re working on setting and meeting those goals, remember to look for me out on the roads, tracks and trails.
