Run Wild Missoula Executive Director: Busy Little Beavers
|
By the time you read this, the Missoula Marathon weekend will have come and gone. If you took part, I hope it went well. If you volunteered - thank you.
We spend 12 months getting ready for the weekend (and we love every minute of it). And, the majority of June is dedicated to the final race preparations. One of the most common questions we get this time of year is something along the lines of "Oh, now that the marathon is over, how much time are you guys taking off?"
Sure, we'll each take a few days off during July to rest a bit and spend time with family; but, remember - Run Wild Missoula is about so much more than just the Missoula Marathon. That means that we (RWM staff and board of directors) have plenty to do post-marathon as we get ready for our summer and fall activities. Here's just a sampling of what is coming up over the next several months.
- Advanced Summer Trail Class
- Little Dipper Running Series (providing support to Missoula Parks & Recreation and Big Dipper Running)
- Summer Core Class
- Monthly Beer Runs
- Annual Member Meeting
- Fall Trail Classes
- Beginner Running 101 Class
- River City Roots 4-Mile, Diva Day 5K, Pumpkin Run, Elk Ramble and Turkey Day
With all of those races and events to plan, there's no resting on our marathon laurels. There's also the need to attend to the "business" side of the club as we close out our 2019 books (August 31st year-end) and prepare our 2020 budget.
We've also hired a new employee - Elizabeth Wasserman will join our existing staff (myself, Ashley Cossairt and Dara Rouse) as our new Program Coordinator beginning in early September. (Between now and then, she's working for the National Park Service in Glacier.) (We'll have more information about Elizabeth in our August newsletter.)
Yes, we'll continue to be busy little beavers well beyond marathon weekend. And we wouldn't have it any other way. It means that we have a robust, active club and that we're meeting RWM's mission of promoting and supporting running and walking for people of all ages and abilities.
So, keep your eyes open as we move beyond the marathon and take advantage of all the RWM summer and fall offerings.
Until next month, I'll see you out on the roads, tracks and trails.
Tony

Where are you from? What brought you to Missoula?
I grew up in Darby Montana better know as “The Last Best Place". I moved to Missoula after attending University of Montana Western. I wanted to be in a bigger city but still located close to the mountains. There’s nothing better than a breath of fresh mountain air.
Congratulations to Julie on completing her first half marathon - the Missoula Half Marathon on June 30th!
Do you know someone from our Run Wild Missoula community that we should get to know better?

Last Wednesday Beer Run: Conflux Brewing Company
|
|
Last Wednesday Beer Run • July 31
This month we will will return to Conflux Brewing Company for our July beer run. This was our largest Wednesday beer run last year and for good reason. Conflux has great beer, great food, and lots of space, both indoors and outdoors.
A 3 and 5 mile course will be offered. Our beer runs are open to everyone - Run Wild Missoula membership is not required. As outlined in our "
Rules of the Run
," for safety reasons, we ask that dogs are not present during the Beer Run.
|
|
"5 Miles to Beer Thirty" - The monthly beer run is a casual fun run/walk open to all runners and all abilities. Each month a 3 and 5 mile route is offered at a different brewery location on the last Wednesday of the month, and at the end is a social gathering with libations and food. What could be a better way to end the month?
