Run Wild Missoula Executive Director: Thanks - There Is Never Enough
Thank You .  We just can’t say it enough to you – the members of Run Wild Missoula.  That being said, I wanted to take a couple of minutes to thank you for some of the great things taking place at RWM.

For the last 12+ months we’ve averaged a bit over 1,600 members.  We’re one of the largest and strongest clubs in the northwest.  Thank You for your continued membership.

Our races so far in 2018 have seen an uptick in participation over the last couple of years.  This means we're outperforming other races around the country who continue to see an erosion in their numbers.  Thank You for choosing our races.

We have over 350 members currently participating in our classes – covering the gamut from walkers to advanced trail runners to yoga and core training.  Thank You for spending your time working out and training with us.

Throughout the year, our events require literally hundreds and hundreds of volunteers.  It’s so amazing to see runners and walkers give back to the sport by giving of their own time.  Thank You for supporting your fellow club members.

As you know, in 2017 the Missoula Marathon was named the #1 Ranked Marathon In The US by the BibRave 100.  That doesn’t happen by accident.  It’s a direct result of our members volunteering during race weekend; welcoming runners from out of state; encouraging friends and family to come out and cheer; and, turning out in force to participate.  Thank You for helping to make the Missoula Marathon a nationally recognized event.

At Run Wild Missoula, our mission is to promote and support running and walking for people of all ages and abilities. Every day I see members of different genders, different paces, different ages and different backgrounds running (and walking) alongside and encouraging one another.  Thank You for being so inclusive and supportive of your fellow members.

But, most of all, thank you for setting the example of how to create an honest-to-goodness running  community .  I’d like to think that we (the RWM staff and board) provide the tools and resources you need to make running and walking part of a fit, active and healthy lifestyle. But, Thank You for using those resources to make running and walking part of the fabric of the Missoula community.

Finally, Thank You for inspiring me every day and for sharing Missoula’s roads, tracks and trails with me.

Tony

Common Ground Film Viewing: May 18th
Friday, May 18th at Run Wild Missoula
Fun Run at 5:30 • Film at 6:30 • Q&A to Follow

Across the United States, a movement has begun to sell off our public lands. Engagement and action are needed to protect our public lands and to keep our common grounds from disappearing.

In the summer of 2017, three friends will set off on a week-long journey from Bozeman to Red Lodge, Montana. This journey will span 250 miles across the largest intact ecosystem in the low forty-eight. Traversing this landscape will draw attention to the importance of the common space surrounding Yellowstone National Park.

The goal of this run is twofold: to empower the community to act in defense of our public lands and inspire adventure across the places we call home.

Join us in our search for common ground.

Event is Free; RSVP Required - Limited to 50 participants.
Women's Navigation Class: May 19th
Feel empowered when you're in the backcountry by knowing exactly where you are and where you're going by using a map and compass. Learn hands-on orienteering in a supportive space at this all-women's navigation class.

In this outdoor workshop, cartographer Amelia Hagen-Dillon will teach you to use a map and compass to plan a route and stay on it. You'll learn how to read a topographic map, the parts of a compass, and how to use a map and compass in tandem. You'll be able to pinpoint your location through triangulation and then navigate to new locations by following a bearing.

Each participant will get their very own Cairn Cartographics map of the Missoula area. There will be a few compasses on hand for participants to use, but please bring your own if you have one. (Many phones have compass apps.) The class will begin at the Greenough Park Pavilion for the classroom portion, and then we'll hike to Waterworks Hill for hands-on practice. Please dress appropriately.

This class is a collaboration between  Cairn Cartographics  and  Ecology Project International (EPI) , a local science education nonprofit. All proceeds from the class support EPI's #STEM4Good campaign to engage more girls in hands-on science and empower them to pursue careers in STEM. To learn more about the campaign, please visit EPI's website

Registration is required and class size is limited - Click Here to Register
