Run Wild Missoula Executive Director: Run Local To Run Later
|
We know that virtual races have really taken off under the Coronavirus pandemic. We get it. With the challenges of providing safe, in-person races, virtual events provide an incentive for you to keep training, a reason to hold yourself accountable, and a reason to #LaceEmUp and get out the door.
When you are looking at virtual races, please be sure to consider local events such as those put on by Run Wild Missoula. Why? We do our best to share our proceeds within the community. With our spring series, we were able to make meaningful contributions to the YWCA Missoula’s Pathways Program and to the Missoula Food Bank. Our Run For Missoula fall series will contribute to Missoula Downtown Foundation, UM Physical Therapy Student Association, Missoula Food Bank and United Way.
We know that some of you really like the bling that is part of some of the national, for profit races. But what do they do at the local level? For our prizes and awards, Run Wild Missoula has chosen to provide gift cards to local retail and restaurant establishments – which helps out local businesses who may be struggling to make it through this time. (Oh yeah, and we'll have some cool, custom designed refrigerator magnets for the Run For Missoula series.)
We have tried to keep our virtual events affordable. But yes, they are a way to generate a small amount of revenue for RWM. Doing so will help us to remain a healthy and vibrant club and allow us to continue our mission of providing resources to the Missoula running and walking community. We want to be here for years to come with great races, classes, group runs, social events and member benefits.
So, when you are planning the rest of your running and walking season, please think of your local events. Run with us now so that we can be here to run with you later.
I'm going to be sure to Run For Missoula - out on our amazing roads, tracks and trails.
