Run Wild Missoula Executive Director: Making Memories and Recognizing Members
At times, running and training can be a bit of a grind.  Putting in all those miles as we prep for the next race can wear on you.  At the same time, running is also about adventures and stories.  Epic falls on trails.  Spectacular runs in amazing places.  Great times with your running pals.  Getting lost. Getting found.  Finding new places and rediscovering favorite routes.  Most often, it’s these runs that keep getting us out on the roads, track, and trails.

As part of our 2018 Member Awards, we want to hear your best running tale from 2018.  Funny.  Inspiring. Embarrassing.  Epic.  Poignant. All are welcome – of course we want to keep it within the bounds of decency :-) Let us know your “Tale Of The Year” - the best of the best will receive prizes at the Member Meeting on Wednesday, September 12 th .  To give an example (and to show you how much information fits within the 1,000 character limit), here’s my 2018 Tale -

I’ve been running for a long time (almost 40 years now).  And, running is definitely part of my identity.  My kids – not so much!  Both ran in middle and high school; but, more as a healthy activity that let them hang out with friends.  And, both largely gave it up once they graduated high school.  So, imagine my surprise when my son (and his wife) decided to run their first marathons at the 2018 Missoula Marathon.

You know, it just wasn’t cool to run with dad in high school; so, we never really did much running together.  But, kids grow and perspectives change.  In the early stages of their marathon training, I was able to visit them in Phoenix. While there, my son and I were able to run together a couple of times.  We had the chance to talk about fishing, his research work, his family, and more.  We talked about training and what to expect over the course of 26 miles.  It was great and I remember it like it was yesterday.  Of all my runs in 2018, those two runs and 10 miles are definitely my favorites.

Speaking of the Annual Meeting of Members, don’t forget to RSVP if you plan to attend.  You can RSVP by clicking  HERE .  And, don’t forget to nominate fellow members, and your own Tale Of The Year, for the 2018 Member Awards.  Nominations can be made by clicking  HERE .

In the meantime, I’ll be out trying to create new memories and stories on the roads, tracks & trails.

On October 26, 2006, Run Wild Missoula officially became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization! As such, Run Wild Missoula is required to have an annual meeting of its members. Twelve years later, we still don't mind pulling everyone together - we're always looking for an excuse to hang out, run, eat, drink and socialize!
Beginner Running 101
Are you having a hard time getting motivated to start running, or do you lack consistency? Don’t know where to begin? Don’t want to do it alone? Perhaps you are coming back from a long absence from running and need to build up slowly.

If so, Beginner Running 101  is just the thing for you! This fun training program will get you ready for Run Wild Missoula's fall races, like Diva Day and the Pumpkin Run. And, if all goes well, once the class is over you'll continue running as part of a fit, active and healthy lifestyle.

This is truly a beginner's class, so don't be intimidated. Pace doesn't matter - all you need is the willingness to take that first step. You'll start by mixing walking with running. Gradually the run segments will increase and you'll find yourself running further than you maybe ever thought possible! Your goal will be to complete a 5K run, and our goal will be to inspire you to keep on going long after this training class is finished.

Join class leaders  Miranda and Spring  on  Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and  Saturdays at 8:30 AM. The first class will meet on Wednesday, September 5th.

Elk Ramble Virtual Run: October 27 - November 11
The Mount Jumbo Elk Ramble 15K on November 3 will be a lot of fun! However, we know the challenging terrain and 3:15 course time limit are an unrealistic combination for some of our members.  This year, RWM is expanding the options by offering an Elk Ramble Virtual Run in addition to the November 3rd event.

Virtual Run participants will run or walk the designated course on a day of their choosing from October 27 - November 11 (except November 3), as individuals or in groups of 12 or fewer at one time. The virtual run is open to Run Wild Missoula members only.

This year's Elk Ramble Virtual Run is an experiment in broadening the range of options for runners and walkers. We look forward to testing the model, learning what works (and what doesn't), and tweaking it as needed going forward.

Registration for the virtual run will open Thursday, September 27. For more information, Click Here .
