For the Kids
2016 Kids Triple Crown
The 2016 Kids Triple Crown will officially kick off with the April 16th running of the Run For Autism at the Charlottesville High School Track.  The series is open to all children ages 3-12, and annually awards a special medal to anyone who completes three of the four qualifying races.  Besides the Run For Autism, the series consists of The Family Fitness Runs at Panorama Farms, The Discovery Dash for Kids at Monticello High School and the Bruce Barnes Mile in Greenwood. Registration for all four events is now open. (Bruce Barnes Mile is race day registration only.)
Free Track & Field Clinic at UVA's Lannigan Field
Mark Lorenzoni, Coach Bryan Fetzer & the UVA Track & Field team will once again host a free Kids Track and Field Clinic at Lannigan Field, a great kickoff for the aforementioned Triple Crown Series. The clinic will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 8:30am, and although registration for the clinic is free, it must be done online in advance.
2nd Annual Central Virginia Middle School Track Meet
Due to the overwhelming success of last year's inaugural meet at Charlottesville High School, we are thrilled to announce that the second annual running will take place at UVA's state of the art facility at Lannigan Field. The meet will be held Wednesday, April 20th from 5:00-7:00pm and is free and open to any middle school aged child in the area (public, private or home school). In addition to the venue change, we have also recruited the services of Fork Union coach Winston Brown and his FAT (fully automatic timing) crew to handle our results, which will ensure the highest level of accuracy, especially in the shorter sprint events.

At the Races
Two of our longtime area favorites kicked off the spring racing season these past few weeks, raising a tremendous amount of money for local non-profits thanks to the hard work of countless volunteers. The Haven 8K (formerly the Martha Jefferson 8K) took place on Saturday, March 5th and saw over 320 runners and walkers complete the challenging, downtown 5 mile loop as race directors Kevin & Maureen O'Shea raised over $13,000! Two weeks later, 1,775 runners toed the line for the area's oldest and most prestigious race, the Charlottesville Ten Miler. A great race recap by Mark Lorenzoni appeared in The Daily Progress and complete results for both races can be found on the CTC's website.

UVA Virginia Challenge and Masters Mile
A series of three home track meets at UVA's Lannigan Field this spring will culminate with the April 22nd & 23rd running of The Virginia Challenge, one of the premier meets on the East Coast every year. This two day meet annually attracts some of the country's top collegiate programs and this year's running should be no different with defending NCAA XC champs Syracuse in attendance as well as perennial powerhouses Michigan State, Notre Dame, UNC, Georgetown and Ole Miss.

The Masters Mile will once again take center stage on Saturday evening's portion of the meet ( 7:15pm), as this unique community event is open, free of charge, to anyone 40 years and older who is interested in toeing the line in track's most revered distance event. To register, just send us an email.

County Park of the Month - Preddy Creek
