SARM HR Services Pilot Program Update

In February, SARM launched a pilot HR service for members in Divisions 2 and 5 to assess both the demand for, and the potential structure of, a new service offering. Developed in partnership with MCQUEEN, this service was designed to provide RMs with advice and support on a wide range of human resources issues. Mirroring our legal services, the HR support was offered on a fee-for-service basis.

As of the end of June, we have paused new client intake in the HR program, to evaluate the results of the pilot. We are pleased with the level of interest and engagement the service received. It is clear there is strong demand for this type of support to address your staffing and personnel needs. We are now in the process of seeking feedback from participants on all aspects of the program, including service offerings, delivery, provider, and cost. These insights, along with our learnings over the past few months, will play a key role in shaping what a permanent HR service from SARM might look like.

You will hear more from us in the fall about the future of the HR program, so please stay tuned.

Provincial Government

Announcements

More Than $53 Million for Southwest and Area Highway Improvements Move Export Based Economy

The Government of Saskatchewan provided an update about more than $53 million of highway investments this year in the southwest and area that keep Saskatchewan's export-based economy moving.

Crop Report for the Period July 22 to July 28, 2025

Sporadic showers brought much needed moisture and, in some cases, hail to certain areas of the province, while cooler weather brought relief to crops still in flower. Producers are hoping for more moisture to help with head and pod filling, but for many advanced crops, additional moisture will have little impact on yield at this stage.

Updating Flood Risk Planning for Safe and Strong Community Development

Ensuring municipalities can plan for the growth of their communities, the Ministry of Government Relations is aligning the regulations of The Planning and Development Act, 2007, to the standard of a one-in-200-year flood event.

Legislation to Protect Communities From Street Weapons and Dangerous Drugs Comes Into Force

On August 1, 2025, The Safe Public Spaces (Street Weapons) Act comes into force. This new legislation promotes safety in public urban spaces by regulating the possession, transportation and storage of items that may be used as street weapons, such as knives, hypodermic needles, machetes and bear spray, as well as dangerous drugs such as methamphetamine and fentanyl. These rules will apply in municipalities and First Nations that choose to opt in to the new Act.
