Saskatchewan Wildfire Update August 18

As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, there are 69 active wildfires in Saskatchewan. Of those active fires, seven are categorized as contained, eight are not contained, 36 are ongoing assessments, and 18 are listed as protecting values.

Province Initiates Mandatory Testing for CWD and Bovine Tuberculosis in Select Zones

Mandatory testing is now officially underway for white-tailed deer, mule deer and elk in select Wildlife Management Zones (WMZs) during the 2025-26 hunting season.

Hunters harvesting deer or elk in these zones during the draw or regular season must submit the animal's head for testing within one month of harvest or by January 21, 2026, whichever comes first.

Fire Ban Issued by the Province has Been Lifted

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has lifted the provincial fire ban as of 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, due to improved conditions.

The public is reminded that provincial parks, municipalities, and RMs may still have their own local fire ban, restriction, or advisory in place.

Crop Report for the Period August 5 to August 11, 2025

Widespread rainfall in the province last week had varying impacts on crops. The rain was timely for later seeded crops as they continue to fill, but some producers are concerned about the potential impact on quality for early seeded crops.

Call for Projects: Wildfire-Resilient Infrastructure

Climate Ready Infrastructure Service

With wildfire risks on the rise across Canada, the Climate Ready Infrastructure Service (CRIS) has launched a new stream of support to help local governments and Indigenous communities make public buildings safer and more resilient.

  • Communities under 30,000 can now access up to $20,000 in expert support, fully funded and coordinated by the CRIS team.
  • Support includes tailored advice on fire-resilient design, materials, and indoor air quality for design or retrofit projects approved in a capital or work plan
  • Eligible buildings include community centres, libraries, civic centres, water/wastewater facilities, fire halls, and more - submit your public infrastructure project!

The program output is a customized Technical Options Report with strategies and high-level cost estimates to help you determine the best-fitting solutions to incorporate wildfire resilience into the design or retrofit your infrastructure.

Submit your project in as little as 10-15 minutes before August 31, 2025.

The CRIS is facilitated by the Canadian Urban Institute and funded by the government of Canada.

OTC Needs Assessment Survey

The Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC) is conducting a needs assessment relating to active and inactive Reconciliation Circles throughout Saskatchewan. The purpose of this needs assessment is to determine how we can best support the circles in collaboration with surrounding municipalities to advance Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations and Truth and Reconciliation in Saskatchewan.

Please answer each question to the best of your ability. Your participation is voluntary and anonymous. Responses will be used by OTC for evaluation purposes only. If you are unsure or do not wish to answer a question, please feel free to skip it.

The survey deadline is August 31, 2025. This survey should take about 5-10 minutes to complete.
