Gravel Pit Measuring Service Award Notice

To comply with the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) and other regional trade agreements, SARM was required to complete an RFP solicitation for a Gravel Pit Measuring and Data Processing Service. Only suppliers that responded to the RFP and received a successful contract award can be promoted as an approved supplier through the SARM Member Purchasing program.

We are pleased to announce that Zach James Media received the successful award as the SARM Member Purchasing Gravel Pit Measuring approved supplier.

Declaring a Local Emergency - Municipal Role

With excessively high temperatures during the heart of the growing season, it is expected that several RMs will consider disaster status very soon. Both pastures and croplands are being affected by drought.

Although a declaration is not required to receive future funding or assistance, it helps understand the severity of the situation we are in. Municipal declarations bring awareness to an issue in a specific area of the province. A declaration of local emergency can be made by council through a resolution. See link below to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.

Declaration of a Local Emergency

Before a municipality formally declares a state of agriculture disaster, the following questions should be considered to enable consistent and thorough communications. These include:

Does the local emergency cover the entire area or just a region within the municipality?
Does the local emergency cover all the municipality or only certain commodity products?
Has the municipality contacted other groups and associations to discuss impacts being experienced?

Once a declaration of a local emergency has been made, we ask that you provide information regarding the details of the agriculture disaster to the following:

Saskatchewan Rabies Response Program

The Rabies Response Program was created to protect both humans and animals from the spread of rabies. The first line of defensive is vaccination.

If an animal is suspected of having rabies, your veterinarian will collect samples and submit them for testing under direction from the program's Rabies Risk Assessment Veterinarian (RRAV). Test results will be reported back to the submitting veterinarian and to the RRAV. If there is a positive result, the RRAV will also coordinate any response and follow-up activities.

Preferred Site Identified for New Specialized Long-Term Care Facility in Regina

A portion of an approximately 158 hectares (390 acres) parcel south of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina Campus has been selected as the preferred site for a new Specialized Long-Term Care Facility in Regina.

Hay and Ditch Mowing Gets into Full Swing

Saskatchewan producers can gather hay along provincial highways. After July 8, anyone may cut and bale hay without permission from the nearby landowner, if no mowing or hay recovery is underway by the adjacent landowner/lessee.

Registered Nurses from the Philippines Beginning to Arrive to Saskatchewan

Five Registered Nurses (RNs) from the Philippines will arrive this week in Saskatchewan. This is the first of several groups of Filipino RNs with conditional job offers that will arrive to Saskatchewan on a regular basis for their in-person training. Once their in-person training is completed they can begin their employment with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan Provide Additional Support for Producers

[On July 12, 2023], the federal and provincial governments announced Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) is implementing extraordinary measures to offer support to Saskatchewan livestock producers facing challenges resulting from dry conditions this year, allowing additional acres of low yielding cereal and pulse crops to be diverted to feed.

Another $13 Million for Highway Improvements in Rural Saskatchewan

More than 31 municipalities and communities are set to receive $13 million through the Rural Integrated Roads for Growth (RIRG) program to address 34 projects.

RIRG provides financial support to rural municipalities (RMs) for the cost of constructing and upgrading rural infrastructure, which helps local industries including agriculture, energy and forestry. The program grants cover up to 50 per cent of each project's total cost, to a maximum of $500,000.

Applications Being Accepted for Targeted Mineral Exploration Incentive

Companies can now submit applications for Saskatchewan's expanded Targeted Mineral Exploration Incentive at Saskatchewan.ca.

The Incentive provides financial assistance as a grant to exploration companies that undertake eligible drilling activities. The program was expanded in the 2023-24 Budget to drive additional exploration activity, particularly for critical minerals.

Respect in the Workplace Training

Since 2019, SARM has been fortunate to offer the Respect in the Workplace Training at half the cost due to SARM’s partnership with the Respect Group. This program is designed to empower your team with the skills to prevent bullying, abuse, harassment, and discrimination. Our goal is to have our members, both council and staff, certify themselves through the training. The program takes approximately 90 minutes and is done online in one sitting, but we recommend you break it up. You can come and go from the modules. The focus of the training is on culture change but of equal importance is the legal risk and liability avoidance it affords.

The certification costs $20.00 per person. Councils and staff simply register for the training. SARM will invoice the members on a quarterly basis based on your activity. It’s as simple as that.

Free 60-minute “Safe Trailering” Comprehensive Online Course

Every year, inexperienced drivers purchase new ATVs, boats, side-by-sides, snowmobiles, and other recreational vehicles in Saskatchewan. Then, often with little instruction on how to load and secure their new toys to the hauler, they go about learning to tow a trailer, sometimes at a significant cost in the form of property damages, injury to themselves or others, or worse.

Saskatchewan residents seeking valuable instruction on safe driving while towing a trailer will now have unincumbered access to a brand new and completely free training course developed by knowledgeable and experienced subject matter experts.

Utilizing closed course demonstrations, multiple detailed camera angles, and digital graphic visualizations, this program covers topics such as:

Selecting the right trailer
Load distribution
Weight requirements
Completing walk-around inspections
Learning various types of hitch receivers and electrical adaptors
General best practices when pulling a trailer and maneuvering around roadways.

Release of the Proximity to Services and Amenities in Rural and Small Town Canada Database

Statistics Canada is pleased to inform you about the release of the Proximity to services and amenities in Rural and Small Town Canada (ProximityRST) database, 2023, through the Statistics Canada - Rural Data Viewer.

The ProximityRST database builds on the conceptual framework developed for the nation-wide Proximity Measure Database and includes nine measures of access to services and amenities at the dissemination block level. This database expands "proximity" by accommodating the driving distances (1.5 km to 10 km) that residents of rural communities typically experience when accessing services and amenities.
