New CCBF Municipal Funding Agreement

The Ministry of Government Relations is pleased to be administering the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF), formerly Gas Tax Fund, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada for another 10 years! The joint federal-provincial announcement was made on August 22, 2024.

This 10-year agreement follows the Municipal Gas Tax Fund Agreement that expired on March 31, 2024, and is effective from April 1, 2024, until March 31, 2034.

Similar to previous agreements, this conditional grant funding is calculated on a per capita basis for eligible municipalities.

With the renewal of the CCBF program, the most significant changes are:

  • Municipalities with a per capita calculation of less, will receive a minimum of $2,000 annually;
  • Municipalities with 2021 census populations of 30,000 and greater will have additional mandatory housing-related reporting requirements; and
  • The associated Municipal Compliance Strategy has been revised. Information can be found on saskatchewan.ca.

If your municipality is agreeable to the terms and conditions, you are encouraged to sign and return your agreement to ccbfprogram@gov.sk.ca no later than November 1, 2024.

Crop Report for the Period of September 3-9, 2024

Producers were able to make significant harvest progress over the past week due to the lack of moisture. Currently, 61 per cent of this year's crop is in the bin, up from 42 per cent reported last week. This is ahead of the five-year average of 50 per cent and the 10-year average of 46 per cent. Although the hot and dry weather has allowed harvest to progress, combine and equipment fires are a significant risk. Producers are also monitoring stored grain closely as there are concerns for bin heating given the high temperatures that occurred at the time of combining.
