A Welcome from the President
The Power of Possibility
by Michele Johnson Johns, BS'82, JD'89

In March, I had, for the first time, the opportunity to tour the Ray E. Cramer Marching Hundred Hall. While walking through this amazing new venue, I thought back to the recent years when the Hundred was essentially homeless and practices were subject to the elements.  Experiencing the reality of the beautiful building, made me, admittedly a little teary eyed, but profoundly grateful for those with the vision, persistence, and dream of building this home for the Hundred, and the understanding that when we work together, anything is POSSIBLE. (Hopefully you can join us for the Hundred Hall’s dedication on October 12, 2018).

Thank you Marching Hundred Alumni Council (“MHAC”) for permitting me to serve as your President, and I hope to continue on exploring and pushing what is POSSIBLE into reality.  READ MORE >>
Homecoming 2018 - Start Planning Now!
Hotels, Building Dedication, Apparel, and Registration Info

Look for a special Homecoming, 2018 Edition of the Rusty Pipes in September, but for now, here are the big things you need to know.

Dedication of Ray E. Cramer Marching Hundred Hall
Join us on Friday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. ET during the official building dedication ceremony. Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie will speak along with guest of honor, former Marching Hundred director, Ray E. Cramer. Stay after the ceremony for a reception and tours of the new building. You won’t want to miss this historic occasion.

Hotels:
If you need a place to stay for Homecoming 2018, we’ve made arrangements with four Bloomington area hotels for group rates. Contact the hotels directly to make arrangements by September 12 . The hotels have different minimum night stays and rates.

Apparel:
Last year, we introduced a new look for the Alumni Band that includes an updated white hat, shirt, and jacket. Our goal is to have the entire alumni band outfitted in the new look by Homecoming 2019. This gives you two more chances to get your gear. We are asking that you wear either a Marching Hundred Alumni polo or jacket with the white hat. We feel a more cohesive look gives the band more legitimacy. The new look will also give the alumni band identity at the one basketball game per year.

Place your order by midnight Eastern on September 13.
Alumni Call-out! Volunteers needed at Band Camp: Aug. 13-18
We are ecstatic to begin this next season with you and the junior band!

With our current push for a stronger alumni presence, we have adapted our activities to be based around a culture of giving back and showing our appreciation for the Marching Hundred.

As you may recall, band camp is a time that members build lifelong relationships, explore their love for IU, and establish their marching fundamentals. This “Tradition of Excellence” does not come easily, though. It takes a lot of time, energy, and high steps. We believe that it is essential that we show our support and appreciation during these long rehearsal days. This is where YOU can make a huge difference in our members’ lives! Read more about how you can help at this year's Band Camp.

Alumni Engagement in the Community
Hospitality. Excitement. Pride.

These three simple, yet powerful words described our performance in late June.

On Saturday, June 23, thirteen IU Marching Hundred members (past and current) joined together to play at an event like we typically do throughout the year. This party, however, was no ordinary event or occasion. This one was special.

Mary Susan Buhner, BA’94, contacted us to surprise her daughter, Susannah Buhner, and the rest of their family and friends at Susannah’s high school graduation open house. Mary Susan wanted to do something extra special because Susannah is the seventeenth member of their family to attend our beloved Indiana University!

But this performance ALMOST didn’t happen!  Read more >>

100 for the Hundred Campaign Update: 20 Yamaha Baritones Purchased

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to your generosity, the first 20 new instruments for the Marching Hundred have been ordered!

20 Yamaha YEP 211 silver baritones will be arriving in August and will be revealed to the band during band camp week in mid-August .

Director David Woodley said that baritones were chosen as the first purchase because the number of baritone players has been increasing steadily.

The cost of the new horns was about $42,000. Our goal is to purchase 100 instruments for the Marching Hundred.

Marching Hundred Alumni at IUAA's Cream and Crimson Weekend

Nine members of the Marching Hundred Alumni were in attendance at the IU Alumni Association's annual Cream and Crimson Weekend on June 8-9 in Bloomington, IN.

Cream and Crimson Weekend is a weekend of training and networking for alumni volunteers from all over the world who volunteer for their local chapter, school, regional campus, and/or affiliate groups (like the Marching Hundred Alumni Council). Members of our Board of Managers and Executive Council also attend for their bi-annual in-person meetings. These dedicated volunteers are outstanding representatives of Indiana University and the Marching Hundred and we are grateful for their service and dedication.
