Hwy 63 Bridge Closed: No Bridge, No Problem!



Construction Update

The Highway 63 bridge just south of Louie's Finer Meats remains closed. The highway is scheduled to open around September 25.



*If you're coming from the north, you can drive to us as normal.

*If you're arriving from any other direction and would usually use the Highway 63 bridge, find an alternate route - the shortest route is to follow our detour signs going north on 8th Street from Highway 48, 1.5 miles east of Cumberland.

*If you are walking or riding a bike, there is a pedestrian path through the construction area.

Please note that the official bridge detour will not bring you to us, so be sure to watch for our signs instead. It is a short, scenic drive that adds only about 5 minutes to your normal trip.

We truly appreciate your patience, your support, and your extra effort to keep shopping local. As always, please drive respectfully near our neighbors. The alternate route is not designed for high speeds. We'll see you on the other side.

Heading north? You will be able to go straight north from here on Highway 63 without returning to the detour.

*There is also construction in progress on Highway 63 between Cumberland and Turtle Lake. Long delays are not expected and the highway is open at all times with periodic lane closures.

The Brat Haus is in Louie's Parking Lot and benefits a wide variety of local non-profits. The Brat Haus serves Louie's Brats, Natural-Casing Hot Dogs, Chips, Pop, Water, and homemade Baked Goods.

Recipe: Rutabaga Sausage Hash

This recipe is a unique way to use Cumberland's favorite root vegetable for breakfast.

Ingredients for 4 servings:

• 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil or Vegetable Oil
• 1 Onion, diced
• 4 Garlic cloves, minced
• 2 medium or 1 large Rutabaga, peeled
• 3 links Louie's Smoked Sausage of your choice
• 4-6 Eggs
• Salt & Pepper to taste
• 2 tablespoons Chives
• 1 tablespoon Water

Instructions:

• Grate the rutabaga or shred in a food processor.
• Melt the coconut oil in a pan over medium-low heat.
• Add the onion to the pan and cook until softened. Add the garlic and cook about 30 seconds. Add the diced sausage to the pan and saute until it is heated through.
• Add the grated rutabaga to the pan. Once the rutabaga has browned on the bottom, flip it and saute until it has softened.
• Crack the eggs on top of everything in the pan. Add 1 tablespoon of water to the pan, and cover with a lid. Steam the eggs, they will cook quickly, and remove the cover once they are cooked to your desired doneness.
• Top with chives.
• Enjoy!

*By car on the south side of the bridge closure. Drive down Main Street Cumberland until you can't drive any farther!

*By ATV/UTV using the City of Cumberland road routes - use the side streets south of the bridge closure.

*By boat from Beaver Dam Lake!

*Walk or bike to us from the north, from Louie's Finer Meats, using the pedestrian path through the bridge construction area.
