Fall Book Sale
The Friends of the Library of Rutherford will hold its Fall Book Sale on Friday, Nov. 1 , from 10:00am - 5:00pm ; Saturday, Nov. 2 , from 10:00am - 4:00pm; and Monday, Nov 4, from 10:00am - 6:00pm . All are welcome to come peruse and purchase gently used books, CDs, and DVDs.

All proceeds from the sale benefit the Friends of the Library of Rutherford, which generously funds our children's programming, museum pass program, film screenings, and more.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Friends of the Library Night
at Jim Dandy's of Rutherford
Jim Dandy's of Rutherford is hosting Friends of the Library Night on the following days: Monday, Nov. 4 ; Tuesday, Nov. 5 ; Wednesday, Nov. 6 ; and Thursday, Nov. 7 , from 10:00am - 9:00pm each night. If you dine in or order takeout from Jim Dandy's and mention the Friends of the Library of Rutherford, 20 percent of your bill will be donated to the Friends. You don't need a flyer. Just mention the name when ordering and your donation will be made! Delicious lunch or dinner AND benefiting the library-- what could be better? Thanks to all who participate, and to Jim Dandy's and the Friends for participating in this yummy fundraiser!
Build a Stuffed Animal Workshop
The Library will hold its second annual "Build a Stuffed Animal Workshop" on Saturday, Nov. 23 , from 11:00am-12:30pm and 1:00-2:30pm . This program is for ages 4, 5, and 6. Registration is required. Registration begins Friday, Nov. 1 , at noon . Phone registrations will be accepted by calling 201-939-8600. Preference will be given to Rutherford residents and out-of-town residents may request to have their name placed on our wait list.
Elder Law and Estate Planning Workshop
Benjamin D. Eckman, Esq. will present his Elder Law & Estate Planning Workshop at the library on Wednesday, Nov. 13 , at 6:30pm . During this seminar, you will discover how to successfully safeguard your assets from taxes, probate and nursing home costs. Registration is required. Drop-In Storytime

Join us for stories, songs, and fun! Make new friends and get ready for reading. For children from infants to 5 years of age and their parents or caregivers. No registration required.

Storytime will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 13, and 20 and Thursday, Nov. 21, from 10:30am - 11:00am.
After-School Storytime
We will hold after-school storytime on Tuesday, Nov. 26 , at 4:45pm .
For children from infants to 5 years of age. There is no registration required.
Music and Movement

We have two great musicians who will be here this month to play music for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Come by for singing, dancing, and fun! No registration required.

Miss Fran will visit the library on Friday, Nov. 1, 8, and 15 ,
from 11:15-11:45am .
Miss Fran may have to cancel her Nov. 1 performance. Please check our Facebook page before coming for updates.

Spanish Storytime


Spanish Storytime continues this month! Join us Friday, Nov. 1 and Nov. 15 , from 10:30 - 11:00am to hear stories and songs in Spanish, led by our favorite ESL teacher Miss Tati! This program is for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers and no registration is required.
VEX IQ Robotics Competition

The Library will be hosting a VEX IQ Robotics Competition, presented by World Class UMS STEAM Team on Tuesday, Nov. 5 , at 1:00pm . Children in grades 4-6 are invited to learn robotics with the team. Learn how to operate and the rules for robots. Registration is required and there is limited space for this competition. Registration is in progress now. No experience needed. Chess Tournament
The Library will host a Chess Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 7 , at 1:00pm . This tournament is open to students in grades 3-6 who can play chess without assistance. Registration is required and limited space is available. Registration is in progress now. To register, call 201-939-8600. This is another Eagle Scout Project in town!
David Darwin's One-Man Side Show




David Darwin will bring his One-Man Side Show to the library on Friday, Nov. 22 , at 4:00pm . Join us to see juggling and more fun! This program is for ages 4-11. There is no registration required and all are welcome.
Thanksgiving Card-Making

We will be offering a Thanksgiving card-making workshop on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 4:00pm . This program is for ages 4-11. Registration is required and begins Monday, Nov. 4 , at noon . To register, call 201-939-8600.
Paws to Read
We welcome back Rodney and Yogi, both registered Bright and Beautiful therapy dogs, for our Paws to Read program.

Rodney  will visit on Monday, Nov. 25 , from  4:00-5:00pm .

Yogi will visit Tuesday, Nov 12 , from 4:00-5:00pm .
Children who are able to read at least a little bit and would like to be able to practice their reading skills are invited to sign up for a 15-minute time slot with Rodney or Yogi. Parents may of course accompany their child during their time with the dog.

Family Cook-A-Book Club
The Library is continuing its Family Cook-A-Book club! Borrow a cookbook from us, choose and make a recipe and bring in samples to our meeting for us to have a taste-test and to talk about our experience! Our next meeting will be  Tuesday, Nov. 5 , at  6:30pm . Future meetings will be held the first Tuesday of the month. For more information, call 201-939-8600.
Game On! Board Game Group
Game On!, the library's board game group, will return Monday, Nov. 25 , from 4:00-5:30pm . It will continue on Mondays at the same time. This group is for fifth and sixth graders. Learn how to play board games you may not be familiar with. Registration for Game On! begins Monday, Nov. 4 , at 11:00am .
Bendy Bookworm Toddler Yoga Storytime

The Bendy Bookworm Miss Danielle will return to the library beginning Thursday, Nov. 14 , from 10-10:30am . This program melds traditional yoga poses and energy exercises with storybooks and rhymes. The program is for ages 18 months to kindergarten. The program will continue on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5, 12, and 19. Registration is required and will begin Monday, Nov. 4 , at 11:00am . "Sew It @ the Library"

All children ages 9-11 are invited to join "Sew It @ the Library," where we will learn about the art of sewing and then make an oven mitt. All supplies will be provided. This program will be held Monday, Nov. 18 , from 4:00 - 6:00pm . Registration is required and will begin Monday, Nov. 4 , at 11:00am . To register, call 201-939-8600.
Chess Club

Join us for a game of chess! Led by an experienced, adult chess player, our Chess Club offers children ages 7-12 the opportunity to learn a few new tips and improve their chess strategy. This two-week program will be held Thursday, Nov. 14 and 21 , from 4:30-5:30pm . Registration is required and will begin Monday, Nov. 4 , at 11:00am . To sign up, call 201-939-8600.
Save the Date: The Spoonman in December
Save the date! On Friday, Dec. 6 , at 4:00pm , the Spoonman will present a hilarious interactive comedy show for ages 4 and up. The Spoonman, who will visit us all the way from Michigan, has played the spoons all over the world. He has performed for world leaders and celebrities and can't wait to amaze you. No registration required. Hope to see you there!
ADULT PROGRAMS
Adult Craft: Holiday Cards

On Friday, Nov. 8 , at 1:00pm , join us in making Thanksgiving greeting cards. On Friday, Dec. 13 , at 1:00pm , we will be making winter holiday cards. All supplies will be provided for both programs.

Registration is required and can be done in person or by calling 201-939-8600. Preference will be given to Rutherford residents.
Origami Club
The library hosts a monthly origami club run by local resident Kira Wallisch. In each meeting, attendees will learn how to make a new origami project.

This month's meeting will be held Monday, Nov. 25, at 6:30pm . All adults are welcome. For more information, call 201-939-8600. Future meetings will typically be held the last Monday of the month.
Adult Cook-A-Book Club
The Cook-A-Book Adult Club is moving to Tuesdays! We choose the book, you choose the recipe. Club members will bring their recipes to the meeting to sample them and discuss their cooking process.

Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12 . We will be making and tasting recipes from The Geeky Chef Strikes Back! by Cassandra Reeder.

Free Tech Class: Finding Your Audience on Social Media
Do you have a (very) small business or charity that you'd like to promote online? Find out how to use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to find and expand your audience. The class will go over how to use social media pages and profiles to effectively reach the people who will be interested in your product or cause. This class will be held Thursday, Nov. 14 , at 1:30pm and Tuesday, Nov. 26 , at 6:30pm .

Adult Yoga: Strengthen and Stretch
Danielle Fisher, the Bendy Bookworm, returns to the library for a four-week Strengthen and Stretch session, beginning Monday, Nov. 18 , from 6:30-7:30pm , and continuing Monday, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 and 9 , also at 6:30pm . Cake Decorating Class


The Rutherford Public Library will hold a holiday-themed cake decorating class on Tuesday,
Nov. 19 , at 6:30pm . The class will be hosted by Rutherford resident and professional cake decorating instructor Bailey McGinty. Learn how to decorate cakes like a pro! Wednesday Night Art

Save the Date: Genealogy Program
Our "Searching for Your Ancestors" program has been postponed to December.

Part One: Using Ancestry to Find Your Family will be held  Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6:00pm . We will learn about Ancestry.com--available here in the library.
Part Two: Other Resources will be held  Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 6:00pm . We'll go beyond Ancestry.com and see what other places on the web will help you find your roots.
We will also be introducing our new genealogy resource, HeritageQuest, on  Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 6:30pm . This database is accessible both at the library and from home with your Rutherford Library card!

The ESL Fall Session

ESL Conversation Group is held Mondays from 10:30am-12:00pm and Thursdays from 1:00 - 2:30pm.

Borrow a Wi-Fi Hotspot
The Rutherford Public Library has mobile wi-fi hotspot devices available to borrow. Hotspots provide an Internet connection so you can use your smartphone, tablet or computer without using data. These are great for our patrons (who are Rutherford residents and age 18 and up) who may not have their own internet connection at home or have lost their home connection temporarily, and even for travel (in the domestic US). Hotspots can be taken out for two weeks at a time. One per household. To reserve a hotspot, click here .

Museum Pass Program
Rutherford residents, the Rutherford Public Library has partnered with 16 museums to provide free entry passes which you may check out with your library card.
