Available for Lending: Starlings
Starlings are small wearable devices that count the words a child hears throughout the day by their caregivers or others around them. The device pairs with a free app that is downloadable to one’s smartphone, which logs the amount of words said to a child each day for three days and sets goals and offers tips and guidance for the users. The goal of the Starling is to get parents and/or guardians to spend more time being verbal with their child, which can result in success for a child as they go through life. For more information from the company, click   here .
Patrons can borrow a Starling kit for two weeks at a time. Each user can download the Starling app and set up their own account in order to track the words for the child in their life. Starlings can be loaned to BCCLS cardholders age 18 and over who are in good standing. To reserve your Starling kit today, click  here. Those with BCCLS cards who are not Rutherford residents will have to make a reservation with a library staff member. For more information, feel free to stop by the library, call 201-939-8600, or email [email protected].
